B. Developmental Activities

*Presentation of the Lesson

-Communication is a complex process, as we

have learned in our past lesson, with elements,
levels, and dimensions. People do not just
communicate because people love to talk.
Humans communicate for several reasons.

-What do you think are the reason why the people

-To share their thoughts,
communicate one another?
problems, ideas and also to build
good relationship. People love to
talk also so they communicate
others.
-(The teacher will appreciate all of their answers).

Humans communicate for several reasons :

regulation and control, social interaction,
motivation, information, and emotional
expressions. Collectively, these reasons are called
the Functions of Communication. Each Function is
based on the Speaker's purpose for
communicating.
*Discussion

- Provide artistic PowerPoint presentation

-1. Regulation and Control

If the Speaker's purpose is to control others by
managing their behavior.

This can be seen in the example of making an

announcement that the community will start
segregating their garbage.

- Can you give other examples class.

-A mom tell his children not to go
outside their house because of
heavy rain
2. Social Interaction
The most familiar and primary reason why
people communicate. This is because people love
to talk and love to talk with each other.
Conversation with one another gives the people
involved pleasure while passing the time in an
entertaining way.
3. Motivation
This is when the Speaker's purpose is to
persuade or try to persuade another person to
change his/her opinion, attitude, or behavior.
This is different from regulation and Control where
the Speaker simply directs others and insists on
his/her agenda.

4. Information
This Function us used when the Speaker wants
to make others aware of certain data, concepts,
and processes -knowledge that may be useful to
them.
5. Emotional Expression
The Speaker appeals to the Listener's feelings
and emotions to encourage him/her to act in a
particular direction.

Regulation/ Control as a function of

communication means being able to use
languages, gestures, and emotions to manage
individual group activities such as parent telling a
child not misbehave or a policeman directing
pedestrians not to jaywalk but cross on the
pedestrian lane.

Regulation/Control is observable if we focus on

the Verbal and Nonverbal cues used by the
Speaker to achieve his/her purpose.

a. Verbal cues- are the specific words chosen and

used. The words are usually directives, orders,
requests, etc.

b. Nonverbal cues - include hand gestures, bodily

action(including posture), vocal tone
(paralanguage) and eye contact. The tone and the
bodily action that accompany the words are
authoritative and firm.
*Generalization

- Before we proceed to our next activity

- What are the different Functions of - The different Functions of

Communication? Communication are Regulation
and Control, Social Interaction,
Motivation, Information and
Emotional Expression.

*Application

- Group yourselves into two this row will be the

group 1 and in the other row will be the group 2.
Each group will have 1 representative after you
choose which among in the instances or scenario
belongs in the group of Functions of
Communication.

-Is it clear?
- Yes sir.
-But before we start what is the best things to do
in doing task as a group? -We need to be cooperative Sir.

- Why is it necessary to be cooperative? - To get the best result.

- Excellent! You may go now to your respective (the student will do the task.)
