Municipal Spelling Bee for Grade 4 Pupils

QUIZ BEE GUIDELINES
A. PARTICIPANTS
1. The spelling bee is open for Grade 4 pupils. Two (2) participants from each public or
private elementary school in Bambang.
2. The contest is individual in nature.
B. SCOPE AND COVERAGE
1. The words for the spelling bee shall be drawn out from the English and Science textbooks
used by the pupils in their respective grades.
2. The coaches of the participants shall submit at least 10 words to be spelled by the
contestants.
C. CONTEST MECHANICS
1. All the contestants shall be at the Municipal Auditorium on December 13, 2023, at 7:30
in the morning.
2. The participants shall be grouped by tens and be seated on the stage by tens in a row.
3. The first 10 participants shall be seated in front to spell the word given by the pronouncer.
The participants shall write their answers on the whiteboard. The whiteboards and
markers shall be provided by the committee.
4. The pronouncer shall signal the participants to raise their markers before he/she read the
given word, gives the part of speech, the meaning of the word, and use it in a sentence.
After this, the pronouncer says “GO” to signal the speller to spell the word on the
whiteboard.
5. Every speller is given ten (20) seconds to spell the word. When time is up, the pronouncer
shall signal the participants to stop writing and raise their whiteboards.
6. The participants who spelled the word correctly shall go back to their proper seats on
stage to join the next phase. The others who did not shall be automatically eliminated
and exit the stage.
7. The same process shall be done for the subsequent groups.
8. The round will go on until fifteen (15) spellers remain in the bee. They shall proceed to
the Final Phase.

D. FINAL PHASE
1. The 15 participants who successfully move on to the final phase shall have draw lots for
their numbers.
2. Each number shall consist of the word the speller shall write on their whiteboards.
3. The participants shall be called one at a time at the center of the stage as the pronouncer
announces the word he/she shall spell.
4. The pronouncer shall signal the participant to raise his/her marker before the pronouncer
reads the given word, gives the part of speech, the meaning of the word, and uses it in a
sentence. After this, the pronouncer says “GO” to signal the speller to spell the word on
the whiteboard.
5. Every speller is given ten (20) seconds to spell the word. When time is up, the pronouncer
shall signal the participant to stop writing and raise his/her whiteboard.
6. The participant who spelled the word correctly shall go back to their proper seats on stage
to join the next phase. The others who did not shall be automatically eliminated and exit
the stage.
7. The same process shall be done for the subsequent groups.
8. The round will go on until one speller remains in the bee. He/she then will be proclaimed
the winner.

E. DECLARATION OF WINNERS

1. The last one who remains in the bee shall be announced the grand champion and shall
be awarded a golden medal, and a cash prize.
2. The second, third, fourth, and fifth to be eliminated shall be announced runner-up and
shall be rewarded a silver medal, and a cash prize.
3. The sixth to fifteenth place shall be announced as finalists and shall be awarded
certificates of participation and consolation prizes.
