EFFECTIVENESS OF STARCH-BASED ADHESIVE

AS AN ALTERNATIVE INGREDIENT
FOR ORGANIC PAPER GLUE
By: Samuel, Hayden, Keith, Joe, Andrew
Grade: 9
Research Background/Rationale
1. Banana peels contains starch in which we predict may be a useful
substance necessary in the production of adhesives used for paper glue.
2. Our country, Indonesia is one of the 10 largest banana-producing
countries in the world after India and the People’s Republic of China.
3. Banana peels are a considerable amount of waste which contains rich
carbon organic compounds that releases lots of carbon emissions
4. Glue is necessary for making student outputs such as artwork or other
school tasks. Unfortunately, they usually use synthetic glues in the
market that contain toxic chemicals that may cause allergies or health
problems.
Research Objective
1. We would like to know whether or not starch extracted from
Kepok Banana Peels can be used to produce bio-glues.
2. Create safe glues to be used by children.
3. Reduce carbon emissions released from waste banana peels
Significance of study:
1. For the students: Useful for them, as now they can have
paper glues that are safe for them to use in school projects
without causing irritations
2. For the Parents: They are now less worried of their students
since they are using irritant-free glues made from banana
peels.
3. For businessmen: Research may convince businessmen to mass-
produce these types of glues that can further improve well-
being of students.
4. For Future Researchers: Research may persuade future
researchers to further study and experiment on these types of
glues.
