Objective : To design and develop a rechargeable

“Soil Battery” for sustainable development and re-

duce our dependence on fossil fuels like coal and pe-
troleum.

A battery is designed in such a way that electricity

will be generated from soil . Soil can be used to gener-
ate electrical power in microbial fuel cells (MFCs),
which convert chemical energy from soil organic
compounds into electricity via catalysis by soil source
exoelectrogenic microorganisms. The process of soil
power generation has several potential applications.
This project can empower rural areas with free elec-
tricity for the usage by farmers in their fields to run
agricultural equipments and lights. The waste soil
can again be used as rich compost for agricultural
purposes.

Hypothesis:
The idea of the project was implemented to overcome
the problems faced by the farmers of POWER CUT
and POWER SHORTAGE for the farmer.

Working:
1. We arranged Copper and Zinc plates from an in-
dustrial area and took electrolyte as water and ob-
served that LED bulb is glowing little bit.
2. Then we thought to put some soil in the water and
observed that the bulb started glowing brightly and
observed better results with more quantity of soil.
3. We performed the experiment with plates of differ-
ent width and finally observed that we are getting
more current (Ampere) along with voltage.

Lead Acid Battery:

A Lead Acid Battery consists of Plates, Separator,
and Electrolyte, Hard Plastic with a hard rubber
case.
In the batteries, the plates are of two types, positive
and negative. These two plates are separated using a
separator which is an insulating material. This total
construction is kept in a hard plastic case with an
electrolyte. The electrolyte is water and sulphuric
acid.
The hard plastic case is one cell. A single cell store
typically 2.1V. Due to this reason, A 12V lead acid
battery consists of 6 cells and provide 6 x 2.1V/Cell =
12.6V typically.

Goal of the project:

To generate sufficient energy for a farmer so that he
can switch on one or more LED lights in his village
without the interference of government of governing
authorities.
a) To generate ascending or modified voltage e.g.
3volts, 6 volts viz. so that we can generate approxi-
mately 12Volts (1,2,3,4,5 Amp Current) or 24Volts
(1,2,3,4,5 Amp Current) in future.

b) To calculate parallel and series combination(s) in

such a manner that we can generate more and
more voltage and current using very low resources.
