Semi-detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 7

Name: John Mhel S. Hagutin Level: Junior High School

I. Objectives

A. Content Standard: Demonstrates understanding of key concepts, uses and

importance of Statistics, data collection/gathering and the different forms of data
presentation, measures of central tendency, measures of variability and probability.
B. Learning Competency:
a. illustrate the measures of central tendency (mean, median, and mode) of a
statistical data (M7SP-IVf-1); and
b. calculates the measures of central tendency of ungrouped data (M7SP-IVf-g-1)

Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

1. define mean, median and mode;
2. find the mean, median and mode of a statistical data; and
3. show appreciation to the value of mean, median and mode in real life
situation.

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Measure of Central Tendency for Ungrouped Data

B. Reference: Manalo, C., et al. (2012). Next Century Mathematics 7
C. Material/s: PowerPoint graphics, laptop, Projector, chalk, board, paper & pen

“4-PICS-1-WORD Game”

Answer: Middle Frequent Sum

B. Activity
(The student will be going to answer 3 easy questions in the given information.)

The set of data shows the grades of top 7 G11 Aries students in their midterm exam
in Mathematics last quarter

88, 90, 93, 93, 93, 94, 94

1. What grade is typical to the group of students?
2. What grade appears to be in the middle?
3. What grade frequently appears?

C. Analysis

1. What grade is typical to the group of students? Answer: 92.14

2. What grade appears to be in the middle? Answer: 93
3. What grade frequently appears?
Measures of Central Tendency for Ungrouped Data
- Mean (Arithmetic Mean)
- Median
- Mode
Mean

 Arithmetic Mean - is computed by summing all the values of the variable in

the data set divided by the number of observations. To get the value of mean
∑𝑥
is 𝑥̅ = 𝑁
.

Ex. The building permits issued last month to 12 construction forms in

Amadeo was 2, 6, 0, 6, 10, 3, 0, 14, 2, 4, 7, and 6 compute the mean.
2+6+0+⋯+4+7+6 60
Answer: 𝑥̅ = 12
= 12 = 5 𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑚𝑖𝑡𝑠

 Weighted Mean is the mean of a set of values wherein each values wherein
each values or measurement has a different weight or degree of importance.
The following is its formula:

∑ 𝑥𝑤
𝑥̅ =
∑𝑤
where 𝑥̅ = mean
𝑥 = measurement or value
𝑤 = number of measurement

Ex. Below are Amaya’s subjects and the corresponding number of units and
grades she got for the previous grading period. Compute her grade point
average.

Subjects Units Grades

Filipino 0.9 86
English 1.5 85
Mathematics 1.5 88
Science 1.8 87
Social Studies 0.9 86
T.L.E. 1.2 83
MAPEH 1.2 87

86(0.9)+85(1.5)+88(1.5)+87(1.8)+86(0.9)+83(1.2)+87(1.2)
Answer: 0.9+1.5+1.5+1.8+0.9+1.2+1.2
= 86.1

Median
The MEDIAN, denoted Md, is the middle value of the sample when the data
are ranked in order according to size

Ex. 16 17 18 19 20 21 22
Answer: 𝑀𝑑 = 19

Ex. 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23
Answer: 𝑀𝑑 = 19.5

Mode
The MODE, denoted Mo, is the value which occurs most frequently in a set of
measurements or values. In other words, it is the most popular value in a
given set.

Types of Mode

1. No mode – A data having equal frequency of observations.

2. Unimodal – A data having one mode.
3. Bimodal – A data having two modes.
4. Multimodal – a data having more than two modes

Ex. Find the mode and determine the types of Mode

1. The ages of five students are 17, 18, 23, 20, and 19
2. The following are the descriptive evaluations of 5 teachers: VS, S,
VS, VS, O
3. The grades of five students are: 4.0, 3.5, 4.0, 3.5, and 1.0
4. The weights of five boys in pounds are 117, 218, 233, 120, and
117.
D. Abstraction
1. What is mean?
2. How do you find or compute mean?
3. What is median?
4. What is mo

E. Application

Compute the mean median mode.

James obtained the following grades in his five subjects for the second grading period.

90, 86, 88, 87, 87

Answer: 𝑥̅ = 87.6, 𝑀𝑑 = 87, 𝑀𝑜 = 87

V. Assessment
Compute for the mean and median. Find the mode

VI. Assignment
Compute for the mean and median. Find the mode.
Ms. Sulit collects the data on the ages of the Mathematics teachers in Santa Rosa School,
and her study yields the following:
38, 35, 28, 36, 35, 33, 40
