A. Answer the following questions.

1. What are the elements of Visual Arts?

Elements of art are stylistic features that are included within an art piece to help
the artist communicate. The seven most common elements include line, shape, texture,
form, space, colour and value, with the additions of mark making and materiality.

2. How is form used in establishing balance?


It is through a reconciliation of opposing forces that equilibrium or balance of
elements is achieved in art.

3. What are the different ways of achieving balance in visual arts?


There are three different types of balance: symmetrical, asymmetrical, and radial.
Symmetrical balance, which includes radial symmetry, repeats patterns of forms
systematically.

4. What is the importance of variety in art?


Variety is used to make a drawing or painting more interesting. We use variety to
catch the viewers attention. Different elements are used like line, shapes, and colors are
placed next to each other in a work of art. They are in contrast to each other giving the
picture a lively quality.

5. How does music differ from the other arts?


Music is an art that uses sound in the form of musical notes, scales harmony,
rhythm and other components to create new music creations. That is creations that are
musical in nature. It is the only artform that uses notes.

6. What are the primary colors in pigments?


Yellow, Cyan, and Magenta are the primary colors of pigments.

7. What colors would you mix if you want to produce each of the following:

a. orange – Yellow and Red d. gray – Yellow, Red and Blue


b. brown – Blue and Orange e. blue-green - Cyan
c. pink- Red and White f. violet – Blue and Red

8. What is the difference between tint and shade?


Tint refers to any hue or mixtures of pure colors to which white is added. Shade
is a hue or mixture of pure colors to which only black is added. It contains no white or
gray. Shade darkens the color, but the hue remains the same.

9. Why is line an important element of visual arts?


Lines are used to create shape, pattern, texture, space, movement and optical
illusion in design. The use of lines allows artist to demonstrate delicacy or force. Curves
may take us slowly uphill, or turn sharply twisting our mind as they turn. A line can
express various moods and feelings.

10. What are the elements of performing arts?


It can be any situation that involves four basic elements: time, space, the
performers body, or presence in a medium, and a relationship between performer and
audience. Performance art can happen anywhere, in any type of venue or setting and
for any length of time.
