GROUP 3 Oral Interview Transcript

Interviewee: She is a former public teacher in Margosatubig Central School,


Margosatubig, Zamboanga del Sur, in the year 1965-1967 and was transferred to Kabatan
Central Elementary School, Vincenzo Sagun, Zamboanga del Sur in the year 1968-2007.

Introductory questions:

Interviewer 1:

Were you able to experience the system of governance of our former President
Ferdinand Marcos? How did you feel when former President Ferdinand Marcos declared
nationwide martial rule that time?

Interviewee:

Yes, I was able to experience the system of governance of our former President
Ferdinand Marcos. I was in DepEd way back in 1965.

Interviewer 2:

Can you recall the events you have experienced during the Marcos regime?

Interviewee:

Yes.

On education:

Interviewer 1:

How was the educational system during the governance of Ferdinand Marcos BEFORE
martial law was implemented?

Interviewee:

The curriculum was enriched by preparing teachers for the different techniques in
teaching such as the Inductive and Deductive base in the US. However, because of the
chaos made by the bandits, we weren’t able to apply it to the students since no one has
the urge to go to school because of fear.

Interviewer 2:

How was the educational system during the governance of Ferdinand Marcos DURING
martial law in mindanao?
Interviewee:

The educational system during the martial law in our place was successful because
there was already peace in the community. Teachers and pupils were not afraid to be in
school.

Interviewer 1:

Did his administration provide educational materials that can be utilized by students
before?

Interviewee:

Yes. Way back, aside from the Philippine government the other nations particularly US
has given supplemental materials for the Filipino students.

Interviewer 2:

Is there a significant change in terms of student's competency during the implementation


of Martial Law in Mindanao?

Interviewee:

Yes, because the teachers were given a memorandum from the higher position that they
should give more focus on improving the learnings of the students.

Interviewer 1:

Does the implementation of martial law have a significant effect on the teachers' salary?

Interviewee:

Our salary was constantly increasing.

In economy

Interviewer 2:

How was the economical state during the governance of Ferdinand Marcos BEFORE
martial law was implemented?

Interviewee:

The economical state of during the governance of Ferdinand Marcos before Martial Law
was that the prime commodities were cheap. Farmers have good harvest even without
fertilizers and fishermen always have good catch.

Interviewer 1:
How was the economic state during the governance of Ferdinand Marcos DURING
martial law in mindanao?

Interviewee:

There was already a ranking and promotions among teachers, and the salaries of the
employees were increasing, so we were able to cope up with rising prices of important
commodities and dairy products.

Interviewer 2:

How does the implementation of martial law affect the economy in mindanao?

Interviewee:

Prices of the prime commodities increased.

Interviewer 1:

What changes were observed when the prices of goods in the market increased during
Martial Law?

Interviewee:

On the positive side, the hard working people improved their way of living. However, on
the other hand, the vicious people became poorer.

In security and peace

Interviewer 2:

What is the situation of Mindanao in terms of peace and security before the
implementation of Martial Law?

Interviewee:

In our place, there were kidnapping, stealing, strapping and killing of people riding in the
pump boat. We don’t sleep in our house. We have an evacuation place near the
mangroove.

Interviewer 1:

What do you think is the reason that urged FEM to implement Martial Law in Mindanao?

Interviewee:

To have peace in the country.


Interviewer 2:

After Ferdinand Marcos implemented Martial Law, have you noticed any differences in
terms of your security?

Interviewee:

We were secured. Our pupils come to school daily.

Interviewer 1:

As a citizen and educator, in your opinion, does the implementation of Martial Law
effectively battled the oppositions/bandits? Does it make the people of Mindanao feel
secure?

Interviewee:

If I were to rate the performance of the late President Marcos for the whole nation,5
because he also committed offenses against the government. But, I will give him 7 for
his performances’ effect in our community because I observed more positive results of
martial law than its negative impact.
