JURNAL REFLECTIVE – WEEK 3

TITLE: PRONUNCIATION PROBLEM AMONG SCHOOL KIDS

Focused issues
On my third week of teaching I notice that many pupils faced some difficulties in pronounce
English words correctly.

Focused issue analysis

The causes are maybe:

- The teaching methods and tools I am currently employing
- My own relationship with the students and how they perceive my interest and
engagement in their learning
- Classroom environment: lack of positive, supportive atmosphere may deter pupils from
participating. (example, the current weather)
In pondering these factors, I realize the importance of self-reflection in my practice. It is
crucial to question not just the "what" of student disengagement but the "why," which often
points back to aspects of my teaching approach or the broader educational environment.

Literature review

Innovative Teaching Methods: Research conducted by Robinson (2019) indicates that

innovative teaching methods, such as project-based learning, gamification, and flipped
classrooms, can stimulate pupils' interest and motivation by making learning more interactive
and experiential.

Classroom Environment: The physical and emotional classroom environment plays a crucial
role in influencing pupil motivation and interest (Skinner et al., 2021). Creating a positive and
supportive atmosphere where students feel safe to express themselves can enhance their
engagement with learning.

Recommendation

To change the problem and develop pupils interest and motivation, I have made several
suggestions that can used to overcome the problem. Some of my suggestions are:

 Exploring ways to make learning content more relevant and connected to real-world
scenarios that interest students.
 Implementing a variety of teaching strategies, such as group projects, interactive
technology, and hands-on activities, to cater to diverse learning preferences.
 Fostering a classroom culture that celebrates curiosity, encourages questions, and
supports risk-taking without fear of failure.

Resolution time frame

I will try to solve this problem in a week time, from 19 March to 26 March, 2024.

Follow up action
As a teacher, I’m responsible for motivate and arouse interest in my class. I need to identify
root causes: Initiate discussions with students individually or in small groups to understand
their reasons for decreased motivation. It could stem from personal issues, lack of
engagement with the material, or external factors.

Adjust Teaching Strategies: Modify teaching methods to cater to different learning styles and
interests within the classroom. Incorporate interactive activities, real-life examples, or
multimedia resources to make lessons more engaging.

Conclusion

Reflecting on the lack of interest and motivation among my students has been a sobering yet
enlightening experience. It underscores the complex interplay between student engagement
and teaching strategies. As I implement these changes, I remain committed to observing,
reflecting, and adapting my approach to meet my students' needs better. This reflective
journey is a critical step towards rekindling my students' passion for learning.
