Action Research Proposal

Name: Antero D. Alonzo

Proposed Title: Investigating Classroom Dynamics in Grade 4 Students

I. Context and Rationale Study Background

Context:
This action research study focuses on investigating the classroom dynamics in grade 4 classrooms. Grade
4 is a crucial stage in a child's educational journey, where they transition from the primary level to more
complex learning concepts. Understanding the factors that contribute to a positive and engaging
classroom environment at this stage is essential for optimizing student learning outcomes and fostering
their overall development.

Rationale:

Transitional Phase: Grade 4 marks a crucial transition in a student's academic journey, where they are
introduced to more complex subjects and learning expectations. It is important to understand how
classroom dynamics can support this transition and facilitate effective learning.

Student Engagement: Engaging students in the learning process is vital for their academic success and
overall motivation. Investigating classroom dynamics allows us to identify strategies that can enhance
student engagement, promote active participation, and foster a love for learning.

Classroom Climate: The classroom climate plays a significant role in student well-being, social
interactions, and emotional development. By investigating classroom dynamics, we can identify factors
that contribute to a positive and inclusive classroom climate, ensuring that students feel safe, respected,
and supported.

Teacher-Student Interaction: The quality of teacher-student interaction greatly influences student

learning outcomes. Through this research, we aim to understand how effective teacher-student
interactions contribute to a conducive learning environment, fostering strong teacher-student
relationships and supporting student growth.

Holistic Development: Beyond academic achievements, grade 4 is a critical stage for the holistic
development of students. By investigating classroom dynamics, we can explore how various factors,
such as the physical environment, classroom management, and technology integration, contribute to
students' social, emotional, and cognitive development.

.
II. Action Research Questions AR Questions
1. How does the physical classroom environment impact student engagement and learning?
1. 2. What teaching strategies are most effective in promoting student participation and active learning?
2. 3. How does classroom management influence student behaviour and academic performance?
3. 4 . What role does student-teacher interaction play in creating a positive classroom climate?
4. 5. How can technology be effectively integrated into the classroom to enhance learning outcomes?

III. Proposed Innovation, Intervention strategy Describe Innovation/Intervention/Strategy

In order to investigate and improve the classroom dynamics in grade 4 classrooms, the following
innovation/intervention strategy is proposed:

 Flexible Seating Arrangement:

Implement a flexible seating arrangement in the classroom to promote student engagement and
collaboration. This involves providing different seating options such as standing desks, bean bags, floor
cushions, and traditional desks. By allowing students to choose their preferred seating, they can find a
comfortable and conducive learning environment that suits their individual needs and learning styles.

 Active Learning Strategies:

Incorporate active learning strategies into classroom instruction to enhance student engagement and
participation. This can include hands-on activities, group discussions, project-based learning, and
multimedia presentations. By actively involving students in the learning process, they can develop
critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and a deeper understanding of the subject matter.

 Positive Behaviour Management:

Implement a positive behaviour management system that focuses on reinforcing positive behaviors
rather than solely relying on punishment. This can involve using a reward system, praise and
recognition, and clear expectations for behavior. By creating a positive classroom climate, students are
more likely to feel motivated, respected, and engaged in their learning.

 Technology Integration:
Integrate technology into classroom instruction to enhance learning experiences and engage students.
This can involve using educational apps, online resources, interactive whiteboards, and digital tools that
support collaborative learning. By incorporating technology, students can explore concepts in a dynamic
and interactive manner, fostering their digital literacy skills and increasing their motivation to learn.

 Teacher-Student Relationship Building:

Emphasize the importance of building strong teacher-student relationships through regular one-on-one
interactions, active listening, and empathy. Teachers can dedicate specific time for individual
conversations with each student, allowing them to understand their needs, interests, and challenges. By
fostering positive relationships, students are more likely to feel supported and motivated to actively
participate in classroom activities.

By implementing these innovative interventions, we aim to create a dynamic and inclusive classroom
environment that supports grade 4 students' engagement, motivation, and overall learning outcomes.
These strategies can be adapted and tailored to the specific context and needs of each classroom,
promoting a positive and productive learning environment for all students.

Yes because with the help of the ice breaker I can easily get everyone's attention. So maybe I get their
attention on the part of stating the learning objectives is because the foundation was good and the class
started lively.

They use new knowledge through, we have activities where they need to apply what they have learned
to real life situations, problem solving and things that will help in decision making that they are doing
and will yet do

Some students struggle with following topics and may skip knowledge to catch up. The teacher
encourages everyone to discuss their learning and revisits necessary topics for those left behind. They
aim to keep students up with their classmates

yes there are students who have difficulty, but there are students who do not have difficulty, and
with the help of classmates, they have conversations about those things and everyone will teach
each other which is a sign of good organization

They are happy with the feedback I give, that is, students are willing to listen and want to learn
because they listen to their teacher's feedback and they learn to improve their learning.

During their performance evaluation, they score higher in the post test than in the pre-test,
meaning they have learned something in the discussion.

NPOTICE
I prepared this activity through reaching out my resource teacher of what lesson to be
discussed, and by informing to the time of my resource teacher so that I can attend to the class

I was able to successfully utilize the instructional materials like visual aids and the use of
recorded lectures from YouTube by presenting it to the class hour.

I thought that it's not good for the learners to use resource materials like recorded lectures
from YouTube then after my cooperating teacher utilize it Idealized that it was very effective
to the smooth and easy way to learn a students

They are very attentive and participative when using instructional materials. The students were
responded actively and participative to the class.

ANALYSE

The students were very participative in the class and most of all the discussion was very
organized. The interest and engagement of the learners are achieved

I think the teacher fluency in discussing the topic by being voice modulated so that students
would hear it clearly what he/she explaining to the class. And it is also important for the teacher
to be energetic always in order for the students to be attentive.

The energy of my voice , and humour integration so that in the next time my class would be
lively and more comprehensive discussion.

It should be connected to the learning outcomes in selecting instructional materials to be

used in the class. It should be clear and accessible to the student

Reflect

To be honest, I’m not totally ready, but I know to choose the right instructional
material for my class. I'm still on the process of improving myself to learn more through
attending various seminars which I can use in the near future

I think it is the categories and the criteria of the teacher and it's ability to meet students needs.
Prior to selection, these materials should be reviewed by the teacher which are defined as
specified in the learning outcomes/objectives

The first thing I can do is to gather teaching materials to make the teaching easier. With the use
of instructional materials like laptop would help the learners easily understand the topic. This
instructional tools would connect in the modern world of teaching in the 21st century education
to make the student interactive and participative in the class

This part allows you to synthesize or put together what you noticed, analysed, and reflected
on to come up with a possible topic to explore for an action research

OBSERV
The problematic situation/challenges I found is how to employ the appropriate
instructional materials to my diverse student when delivering the lesson

Resource or reference about the topic

 Design teachengage.wisc.edu-instructional materials : design + teach+ engage

 Files.eric.ed.gov-availability and use of instructional materials

Key points/findings in what I read

 Instructional materials provide the core information that students will experience,
learn and apply during course
 Instructional materials are essential since they help the teacher an students avoid
overemphasis on recitation.

I hope to achieve to address the challenge in selecting appropriate and proper instructional
materials through variety of strategies and skill I want to improve. There are plenty of
distractions, the hinders to students to study their lessons. So that we as teacher must provide
interactive and eye - catching lessons.

PLAN

I believe that the best way to improve the situation is to assess the learners ‘ability to learn
from the instructional materials provided by the teacher and identify why they aren't
effective. In that way, we can identify what we need to do to improve it
