Morning Meeting/SEL 8:00am - 8:20am

When the bell rings at 8:55, students will come in a complete morning routines. We have had trouble coming in quietly
and getting to work in the morning so I have been waiting outside the door until majority of the students have lined up and
then they are let in. We had a classroom reset a few weeks ago and before they come in, we talk about how they are
going to come in and the tasks they need to complete.

1) Choose lunch
2) Place Items in locker
3)Turn in HW
4)Place iPads on shelf
5)Bell work found on the slides

At 8:05, we begin morning meeting. I usually have a message, joke, puzzle, trivia for them to figure out.

Students can then read to self. I usually have them start packing up for Mrs. Newton's class at 8:18

Monday: Pledge of Allegiance

What's The News? Students will go around and share what they did over the weekend
Tuesday: SEL Lesson

Standard: 5.1.7.7 Analyze how visual and multimedia elements contribute to the meaning, tone, or beauty of a text (e.g.,
graphic novel, multimedia presentation of fiction, folktale, myth, poem).

Learning Target: I can identify parts of a folktale

I can identify a sequence text structure to help me read and understand expository text.
I can identify figurative language and how it creates an image of a story

Bell Work: Greek and Latin Roots

Students will come in quietly from Newton's classroom and start on their bell work. They have 5 minutes to try and
determine the meaning on the root, whether the word is Greek or Latin, come up with at least one word (they are
encouraged to do more), write a sentence using the word, and then draw a picture that is associated with the word.
We will then spend a few minutes going over the word and their responses. If they do not have a word written, they must
write at least two other words they hear from their classmates.

Lesson:
Must Do:
◦ Students will work in preselected pairs/groups to read and complete the questions the level readers.
◦ There will be three different books that students will read, based on their reading levels.
◦ Students will pair read and read the first 15 pages of the book and answer the questions on the worksheet
◦ Questions can be done simultaneously with reading, but need to be their own answers
◦ Each group gets one book to share, unless they are a group of three, then they can have 2 books.
◦ When students are done, they can read to self or finish the EdPuzzle on Blancaflor from the day prior.
◦ You'll get asked this, but NO ONE can use the couch or chairs. They are still working to earn them back.
◦ Students can move the desks if they need to.
◦ Some may ask to read in the hallway, I will leave that up to your discretion. I just ask that no one, from the Lion's
Whisker group goes out there
