I. Categories of Competitions for the 12th EP/MEP Open House 2019.
The order to follow will be decided through a “draw lots’ system.

II. RESULTS & AWARDS

Awards will be categorized as Gold, Silver and Bronze. Ranking will only be applied in the case
of selecting representative/s of E-SAN for another level of competition such as National or inter-
regional competition. The overall results will be tabulated with ranking and be distributed to every
participating school a week or two after the competition. Certificates will be forwarded

Legends: GOLD = 80-100 % SILVER = 70-79 %

BRONZE = 60-69 % HONORABLE MENTION = 50-59 %

STORY TELLING COMPETITION

Competition guidelines

1. Participants: One person per level, per school

2. Time: 5 to 7 minutes, 30 second grace period. If contestant exceeds this grace


period, one point for each 15 seconds will be deducted.[same deduction
for being under time.]

3. Story Theme: Contemporary Stories/Contemporary version of classic stories

4. Materials: …………….. copies of the printed story to the judges prior to storytelling.

Backdrops, sound effects and microphone are not allowed.

5. Presentation: Contestants do not have to follow the script word for word; however they
should stay faithful to the main story.

SINGING COMPETITION
Competition guidelines
1. Participants: One representative per school, per level

2. Time: Limited to one song only (3-5 minutes in length).1 point per judge will be
deducted if not within the time limit.

3. Song: Any genre (song of your choice)

4. Materials:  Contestants must provide CD or flash drive with the


orchestration for their performance.

IMPROMPTU SPEECH COMPETITION - Primary Level

Competition guidelines

1. Participants 1 person per school, per level

2. Preparation Time 5 minutes

3. Presentation Time Lower Primary: Pratom 1 - 3 = 2 - 4 minutes


Upper Primary: Pratom 4 - 6 = 3 - 5 minutes

 All contestants have a 30 second grace period; there will


be one point deduction for each minute, or portion
thereof, over the time limit.

Contestants who arrive late must consult with the committee

5. Topic: Lower Level : My School, Myself, My pet

Upper Level: My Province, My Hobby, How to be healthy

 All contestants will be given two opportunities to pick a


title. They will select randomly from all the titles, and
choose one of the two titles drawn for their presentation.

6. Preparation: Contestants will select their title in the preparation room. They
will be provided with paper and pen or pencil for drafting their
ideas. This paper must be handed to the monitor/personnel before
leaving [prior to presentation]

IMPROMPTU SPEECH COMPETITION - Secondary Level

Competition guidelines

1. Participants 1 person per school, per level

2. Preparation Time 5 minutes

3. Presentation Time 3 – 5 minutes for presentation, 30 second grace period

 If contestant exceeds this grace period, one point for each


second will be deducted. [same deduction for being under time]

Service & Places, Language & Technology

Upper Level: Environment, Personal Relationship, Free time &


Entertainment, Health & Welfare, Education & Career, Traveling,

 The titles will be decided by a judging committee prior to the


competition. No titles will be publicly announced

 All contestants will be given two opportunities to pick a title.


They will select randomly from all the titles, and choose one of
the two titles drawn for their presentation.

6. Preparation: Contestants will select their title in the preparation room. They will be
provided with paper and pen or pencil for drafting their ideas. This
paper must be handed to the monitor/personnel before leaving [prior
to presentation]

Note cards [3 x 5] will be provided if contestants choose to make notes


to use during their speech. (these must be given to the monitor in the
speech venue after presentation)

SPELLING BEE COMPETITION

Competition guidelines

1. Participants: One person per level per school except for Pratom 1-3, two members per
team

2. Time: 3 rounds

3. Materials: All necessary materials are supplied by staff; Competitors are not allowed
to bring any personal items to the competition floor.

NOTE: Participating schools are advised to submit: Single words for round 1. Sentences + words to be
spelt for round 2. Difficult words for round 3. Contributed words must be in conjunction with
words taught at schools based on the 7 Basic learning areas and categorized as easy (1st round),
moderate (2nd round) and difficult.

*The pool of Judges has the right to scrutinize and screen the submitted words and selects the
best words to be used in the competition. The students will be told before each round to be
aware of using capital letters if needed.

Criteria:

Round 1 Listening: (Easy mode) 30 Words


Competitors who can pass 60 %( 18 points) will qualify for the second round.

Round 2 (Moderate mode) 20 words. Listen to the word twice, the MC will speak a
sentence. Participants write the words on the given paper. Participants who get
70% (14 points) will go to the final round.

Round 3 The competitor listens to each word from the MC and spell as many as they can
orally up to 20 words.[ One word at a time the participants can pass or spell the
word ]

[For Pratom 1-3]: Only one member of the team may speak, but the partner may
assist and coach. Answers will be accepted from the designated member only

Judging:

1st round elimination= honorable mention,

2nd round elimination Bronze;

Final Round: 19-20=100; 17-18=90; 15-16=80; 13-14=70;

13 and below= less than 70% tantamount as 2ndround eliminated

QUIZ COMPETITION

Competition guidelines

1. Participants: One team per level per school. 2 persons for one team.

2. Time: Start time as announced. Elimination Round: 1 hour / Final Round: duration
as needed.

3. Questions: Two rounds will be applied (1st elimination round, 2nd Final round)
questions will be based on the content of 8 learning areas:
1. Thai Language ***
2. Mathematics
3. Science
4. Social studies, religion and culture
5. Health and Physical Education
6. Arts
7. Occupations and Technology
8. Foreign Language(English)

Note: Participating schools will contribute 2 questions on each subtopic


to a total of 16 questions. Questions should be typed in Cordia New: 16.
The printed questions should be typed without numbers, and brought to
the judges meeting the day before the competitions, to create a multiple
choice test of 60 questions. Answer keys should also be brought. Also
contribute additional questions for the Final Round.

4. Materials: answer sheets / answer slips / pens /pencils will be provided by the
organizers

Criteria:

Elimination Round: Contestants will have a paper based test with 60 multiple choice questions.
Answers have 4 choices a b c d

Duration 1 hour. Schools will have their time recorded on their answer sheets in case more
than one school has the same score (equal score, but shorter time used results in a higher
placing)

The 10 best schools qualify for the final round.

Final Round: 10 questions, students answer in writing.

Judges read questions one at the time, twice. Students have 60 seconds after each question has
been read the second time to answer the question. Judges collect the answer slips from all
schools after each question.

Scoring: Correct answer, with correct spelling gives 4 points. Correct answer with wrong
spelling gets points ducted with 1 point per spelling mistake. Scoring is based on correct
answers and spelling, NOT on complete sentences.

If schools end up with the same score they will be separated by additional questions to find the
1st, 2nd, 3rd placed schools.

Participants eliminated in the Elimination Round will receive an honorable mention award.

The participants who makes it into the Final Round will receive awards based on their
combined scores.

MATH & SCIENCE PROJECT COMPETITION
Competition guidelines

1. Participants: One team per school per level, 3 members per team

2. Time: 3 to 5 minutes to present, up to 5 minutes after for


questions from judges

4. Materials: 1. Display should be 60 cm X 120 cm X 60 cm (like the image


below) with or without the additional triangular heading

2. Projects should be displayed within the display area of
the board.(Not allow to display in the heading area)
3. Tables for display will be provided. Contestants should
bring all other necessary materials.
Criteria:

1. The oral presentation should be 3 to 5 minutes. One point deduction for every 10
seconds will be applied after a 30 second grace period.
There should be a fair share involvement of the participants during the oral
presentation as well as in the question and answer portion.
2. The written report must not be more than 10 pages [excluding: Title page, Abstract,
Acknowledgment, Table of contents and Appendix (2 pages only)]. Other
information that could not be contained in the report could be displayed in the
board.
Format: A4 with standard margin; double space; font size = 12 [Titles could be
14-16] ; Font = Times New Roman or Arial

SKIT COMPETITION

Competition guidelines
1. Participants: 3 – 5 persons [this includes a narrator, if desired, and actors.]
Set or stage changes are to be done by the actors, no additional assistants
are allowed to help.

2. Time: 5 minutes to set the stage.


Minimum of 8 minutes and 1maximum of 10 minutes for
production/presentation.
30 seconds grace period (less than minimum and more than maximum) will
be given for the presentation time.
1 point will be deducted (under the “Time” criteria) for every 5 seconds
exceeding the given grace period.

3. Order: Participating teams will draw for order of presentation during registration.
All participating schools are requested to be at the competition venue early
for the registration.

4. Story theme: Contemporary stories/Contemporary version of classic stories with moral


lesson

5. Script: ......................... copies will be handed to the judges prior to the presentation

6. Materials: Each team is responsible for bringing their own stage materials
 No microphones will be used if the room is confined.
 Background music is prohibited.
 In connection with the above mentioned prohibition, the use of
electronic device, such as; laptop/personal computer, speakers,
radio, mobile phones and the like, for the purpose of providing
background music / accomplishment / ambience sound is strictly
not allowed in the performance.

Multi Skills

1. Key Stage of Contestants: Key Stage 2, 3 and 4 (P.4-6, M.1-3, M.4-6) 1 student / Key stage / School
2. Competition Process, Time Limitation and the Judging Criteria
The contestants are asked to do the English Proficiency Test which covers all language skills (Speaking,
Listening, Reading and Writing) and Picture Dictation.
2.1 English Proficiency test
- Listening Skill Test 20 items 20 minutes
- Reading Skill Test 20 items 20 minutes
- Writing Skill Test 1 topic 30 minutes
Writing Skill: Write a composition according to the given topic:
- Upper Primary: My Province, My Hobby, How to be healthy (not fewer than 100 words)
- Lower Secondary: Myself, Free time, Education & Career, Service & Places, Language &
Technology (not fewer than 150)
- Upper Secondary: Environment, Personal Relationship, Free time & Entertainment, Health
& Welfare, Education & Career, Traveling, Language & Technology (not fewer than 200
words)
2.2 Speaking Skill Test
The interview covers:
- Language - Use Ability
- Problem solving, ability and creative thinking ability
- The contestant will be asked a question based on the theme. He/She has to answer
according to the time he/she has.
Upper primary (P.4-6) 2-3 minutes
Lower secondary (M.1-3) 5 minutes
Upper secondary (M.4-6) 7 minutes
2.3 Picture Dictation
- The native English speaking judge reads the provided passage twice for all the contestants.
- While listening to the passage, the contestants are allowed to take notes.
- As soon as the second – round reading finishes, the contestants are given 30 minutes to
draw their pictures according to the details of the content heard the given passage.

 The judges evaluate each picture from its correctness and the completeness of the content.

3. Committees: 3 judges / level (at least 1 native) and at least 2
