Instructions for Installing the Updated SecureLink Certificates
When doing the procedures in this document, you must use safe work practices and wear the correct
personal protective equipment (for example, safety eyewear) according to your company's standard
operating procedures.
Announcement and Instructional

This bulletin announces the SecureLink certificate before version 3.2.2.X (not included) for all CARESTREAM
DIRECTVIEW CR, DR, DRX Systems will expire after August 02, 05:28:55 2020 GMT.

Included in this bulletin are instructions for updating the SecureLink Certificate to version 3.2.2.X

IMPORTANT
After August 02, 05:28:55 2020 GMT, if the product SecureLink server version has not been updated to 3.2.2.X,
no access will be granted with SecureLink USB key on products.

DIRECTVIEW V5.7G and higher products have included the updated SecureLink Server version 3.2.2.X.
All DIRECTVIEW products older than V5.7G, please install the Updated SecureLink Bootable‐Disc/USB‐disk or
upgrade to the most recent V5.7 software release.

The expiration date before the SecureLink Server 3.2.2.X (not included) is Aug 02, 05:28:55 2020 GMT.
The expiration date of the SecureLink server 3.2.2.X will be Feb 03, 14:10:53 2038 GMT.

IMPORTANT
The most direct validation that a system is not effected is to use SecureLink to log into the system (after Aug
2nd). If Service can log onto a system using SecureLink, that system is not affected and no further validation is
needed.

How to Verify SecureLink Version and Certificate Expiration Date

SecureLink Client refers to the SecureLink software that runs on the Field Engineers laptop. The Secure Link
Server refers to the Secure Link software that is running on the products.

1. Check SecureLink Client Software Version. When you launch the SecureLink Client Software, check the
version on the bottom right corner:

NOTE
The SecureLink Client v3.2.4.02 installer software is located on the Service Portal. Refer to instructions,
SBAG8704, Announcing CARESTREAM SecureLink Client Software v3.2.4.02. If your SecureLink Client
version is 3.2.2.x or higher, your client is ready for the server update. However, it is always good to
update the client to the latest version.

2. Check SecureLink Server version and Certificate Expiration date. If the system does not allow you
access to check this, first follow the instructions below to update the SecureLink server in the
following section.

When SecureLink is connected to the DIRECTVIEW products, click the red ” I “ (Info) button to see the
SecureLink Server Version and certificate expiration date:
 Before Installing the Updated SecureLink Certificate, if SecureLink versions are lower than 3.2.2.X
(not included), the certificate expiration date will be August 02, 05:28:55 2020 GMT.

 After Installing the Updated SecureLink Bootable‐Disc/U‐disk, SecureLink server version will be
3.2.2.X and certificate expiration date will be Feb 03, 2038 GMT.

Update SecureLink Server

A. Downloading Updated SecureLink Server Certificate File

The Carestream Updated SecureLink Certificate Files will be available for download from the Carestream
Health Service Portal.
1. Download XRS_DIRECTVIEW_SECURELINK_UPDATE_2020.zip file from Service Portal.
2. Unzip the XRS_DIRECTVIEW_SECURELINK_UPDATE_2020.zip file into a folder.
There will be two files:
 XRS_DIRECTVIEW_SECURELINK_UPDATE_2020.iso
 XRS_DIRECTVIEW_SECURELINK_UPDATE_2020.md5
NOTE
There is an MD5 checksum to ensure the .iso file downloaded correctly.

B. How to generate the Bootable CD/USB‐disk for SecureLink Server Certificate Upgrade

1. What are needed before continuing:


a. The .ISO file named XRS_DIRECTVIEW_SECURELINK_UPDATE_2020.iso
b. The CDR which is empty, ready to be written
c. or A USB‐disk at least 512M, would recommend to use 32G
2. Generate the Bootable‐CD
a. Put the empty CDR to the CDWriter
b. Write the given ISO to the CDR
c. When writing done, check the contents
3. Generate the Bootable‐USB‐disk
a. Plugin the USB‐disk you want to generate the Bootable‐USB‐disk
b. Backup the files on the USB‐disk, for all data will be lost in the following actions
c. Format the USB‐disk and set its file system to FAT32
d. Mount the ISO to a virtual Disk, and run the command to copy files:
 xcopy <VirtualCDROM>:\*.* /s /e /f <Your_USB_Disk>:\

NOTE
For example, Virtual CDROM is F: and USB Disk is E:, you can enter the following command to copy
files and wait till all files copied.

e. Copy back your files that are backed up in the step 3.b

C. Installing the SecureLink Server Certificate Update

1. Insert the bootable CD/USB‐disk into the machine.


2. Reboot the system.
3. When the system starts to boot, press the function key that allows you to boot from the CD/DVD or
USB – refer to the recovery instructions for the individual product to determine the key.
NOTE
It is usually the F12 for IBM, Lenovo and Dell computers, and the F9 key for HP computers.

4. The bootable CD/USB‐disk may launch automatically. Note: In general this is the same process as what
is needed or used for booting off of CD when performing a re‐image. Some systems may be set to ask
for the BIOS password and some will require an additional “Press a key to continue to boot off CD”.
5. Waiting to finalize the upgrade.

6. It should take approximately five minutes for the upgrade to complete. Wait for the message that
confirms the upgrade completed successfully.

7. Exit the screen and eject the CD disc or remove USB‐disk and reboot.
8. The product will launch.

9. Login to the product as Service using a USB Flash Drive or Service Passcode to verify it can be logged in
successfully.

Questions and Answers

1. What happens if I install the update on a machine that has already been updated?
The update will still be in effect. It will not cause a problem.

2. What happens if a machine isn’t updated with the new SecureLink certificates before August 02,
05:28:55 2020 GMT?
The customer will not be affected, only Service access to the machine is affected. The certificate
update will be the only method to restore Service access to the machine.

3. Will I need to update the certificates every time I reimage a machine with V5.6 or earlier software?
Yes. We will not be making new software images containing the new certificates.
