7. The following are the exchange rates that were used by a certain forex bureau in Kenya.

A business woman from Singapore converted 95,600 Singapore Dollars to Kenya shillings at the
FOREX bureau.
(a) Find the amount of money that she received. (1 mark)

(b) The business woman spent Ksh. 6,354,992.10 while she was in Kenya. She then converted the
balance to Thai Bhat while heading to Thailand. Calculate the amount of money she received.
(2 marks)

8. A piece of land measuring 1820 m by 858 m is divided into square plots of equal sizes
(a) Calculate in square metres the area of one such plot. (2 marks)

(b) If each plot costs Kshs.350 000 determine the total cost for the piece of land. (1 mark)

9. When the sun rays make an angle of 48 with the ground, the shadow cast by a vertical pole is 4
metres. How long will this shadow be when the sun’s angle of elevation is 38 ? (3 marks)

12. The figure below shows quadrilateral QRST in which TS is parallel to QR, QR = 7 cm, RS = 12 cm,
QT = 8 cm, TQR = 60 and RSQ = 45 . Find the exact length of QS. (3 marks)

15. The volumes of two similar cylindrical solids are 2 528 cm3 and 8 532 cm3. If the surface area of the
smaller one is 176 cm2, find the difference in the surface areas of the two cylinders. (3 marks)

16. Use a ruler and a pair of compasses only in this construction. Given the line PQ below, construct a
quadrilateral PQRS where  PQR = PSR = 90 ,  QPS = 60 , and QR = 4.5 cm. Measure the

SECTION II (50 Marks)


Answer any five questions from this section in the spaces provided.

17. Three business partners Collins, Tyrus and Devis contributed Kshs.186 000 to start a business. The
ratio of contribution of Collins to Tyrus is a : 5 while that of Tyrus to Devis is 7 : ( a + 2 ) .
(a) Find in terms of a the ratio of contribution of Collins : Tyrus : Devis. (2 marks)

(b) Given that Collins contributed Kshs.56 000 towards the business, find the value of a and hence
state the ratio of contribution of Collins : Tyrus : Devis respectively. (3 marks)

(c) The business partners agreed to share the profit at the end of the year as follows;

- to cater for license and business maintenance.

- to be shared equally amongst the partners.

- Remaining amount to be shared according to the ratio of contribution.
In the year 2023, the partners got a profit of Kshs.162 750. Calculate:
(i) the amount the three partners used for licensing and maintenance. (1 mark)

18. The boundaries PQ, QR, RT, TV and VP of an animal conservancy are straight lines such that Q is
65km on a bearing of N48oW from P. R is directly south of Q and on a bearing of 120o from P. Point T
is 58km on a bearing of S50oW of R.
(a) Using a scale of 1cm to represent 10km, show the above information in a scale drawing.
(4 marks)

(b) From the scale drawing, determine :


(i) The distance in kilometers of PT (1 mark)

(ii) The bearing of T from Q (1 mark)

(c) If the points P, Q, R and T are the vertices of a quadrilateral PQRT which represents the area
reserved for endangered species, determine this area in hectares. (4 marks)

19. The diagram below shows a solid made of two components; a cone and a hemisphere. The height of

the solid is 98 cm and the diameter of the cone is 84 cm. By taking  to be ;

20. Mary bought 7 exercise books and 9 graph books from a shop A at a total cost of sh 890. If she had
bought 11 exercise books and 8 graph books, she would have paid sh 140 more.

(a) (i) Form two simultaneous equations to represent the information above. (2 marks)

(ii) Using matrix method, find the price of each exercise book and graph book that she
bought. (5 marks)

(b) The price of an exercise book at Shop B is 18% cheaper and that of a graph book is 5% higher than
in shop A. How much would she have saved if she had shopped at shop B? (3 marks)

21. (a) On the grid provided below, draw quadrilateral ABCD whose vertices are at A ( 2, 0 ) , B (1,3)
C ( 5, −1) and D (1, −2 ) . (1 mark)

(b) On the same axes, draw ABCD the image of ABCD under a translation represented by the

(c) Draw the quadrilateral ABCD the image of ABCD under a reflection in the line y + x = 0

ABCD under transformation X. Draw ABCD and describe X fully. (3 marks)

(e) State type of congruency between quadrilaterals ABCD and ABCD . (1 mark)

22. The figure below represent a piece of land in the shape of an irregular pentagon in which PQ = 240 m,
QR = 100 m, ST = 160 m, obtuse  QRS = 105 ,  TRS =  RPQ = 90 and  RST = 60 .

Calculate;
(a) the size of angle QPR correct to 2 decimal places. (2 marks)

(b) the length TP correct to 1 decimal place; (4 marks)

(c) the area of the piece of land, in hectares, correct to 2 decimal places. (4 marks)

23. an antelope initially moving at a speed of 15 m/s accelerates uniformly at 2 m/s2 for 10 seconds. It then
maintains the velocity attained for 10 seconds before decelerating to rest in a further 20 seconds.
(a) Complete the sketch below, which illustrates the speed – time graph for the antelope. (2 marks)

(b) Calculate the maximum speed attained by the antelope. (3 marks)

(c) Calculate the distance covered by the antelope in:


(i) The first 10 seconds; (2 marks)

(ii) The last 20 seconds. (1 mark)

(d) Calculate the average speed of the antelope for the whole journey. (2 marks)

24. A line K passes through the points ( 8, 2 ) and ( −4, 6 ) . Find;


(a) equation of line L which is perpendicular bisector of K. (3 marks)

(b) x and y – intercepts of a line M passing through (1, −9 ) and parallel to line K. (4 marks)

(c) Point of intersection of lines L and M. (3 marks)
