a. Don Francisco (Father):


Influence: Jose Rizal inherited a strong sense of moral principles and a passion of study from
his well-educated and upright father, Don Francisco Mercado. He encouraged Jose's
intellectual interests and gave him access to school.
Qualities: Jose probably inherited his father's integrity, discipline, and dedication to learning
and personal development.

b. Doña Teodora (Mother):


Influence: Rizal's mother, Doña Teodora Alonso, was a highly educated woman who
supported her son's inventiveness and intellectual curiosity. Additionally, she gave him a
strong feeling of pride in his Filipino ancestry.
Characteristics: Jose inherited his mother's bravery, resiliency, and deep love for his nation
and its traditions.

c. Paciano (Brother):

Influence: Jose Rizal's moral and intellectual growth was greatly influenced by his elder
brother, Paciano Mercado. He was a mentor, a guardian, and an advocate for Jose's
education.
Qualities: Jose most certainly learned loyalty, accountability, and the value of sticking up for
what one believes from Paciano.

d. Sisters:

Influence: Throughout his life, Rizal received emotional support and motivation from his
sisters, especially Saturnina and Olympia. They both had a passion for books and education.
Characteristics: Jose might have picked up empathy, compassion, and the value of strong
family ties from his sisters.
e. Uncle Jose Alberto:

Influence: Jose Alberto, Rizal's liberal-minded uncle, introduced Jose to fresh viewpoints and
concepts. He pushed him to think critically and gave him intellectual stimulation.
Qualities: Jose probably inherited his uncle's open-mindedness, intellectual curiosity, and
openness to question accepted wisdom and customs.

f. Uncle Gregorio:
Influence: Jose Alberto, Rizal's liberal-minded uncle, introduced Jose to fresh viewpoints and

g. Uncle Manuel:

Manuel Hidalgo, a physician. Rizal was born in Manila. It's possible that he inspired and
guided Jose's future professional decisions.

h. Maestro Justiniano Cruz:

Influence: Jose's early schooling was greatly influenced by Maestro Justiniano Cruz, Rizal's tutor. He

Qualities: Jose most certainly picked up a passion of learning, an insatiable curiosity, and a quest for
information from his tutor.
