ABSTRACT

Quality of food is an important issue to consider when responding to the food

budget for persons deprived of liberty, as overcrowding can lead to a variety of issues in
providing food in correctional facilities. This study employed descriptive survey research,
where purposive sampling technique was used to select the respondents. The respondents
were chosen based on their suitability. The respondents in the study are jail officers of
Zamboanga del Norte Correctional and Rehabilitation Center. The study revealed that the
jail faces challenges in food budgeting due to the slim budget allocated for the PDLs.
This is crucial for rehabilitation as food also impacts the well-being of the PDLs.
Furthermore, the implementation of quality measures to address food shortages was quite
efficient. It was utilized by the institution to gain additional food and revenue. This
implies that the quality measures provided the institution with a sustainable food supply.
To address the food shortage in jail, the food budget for every PDL should be raised to
sufficiency. To alleviate the food budget challenges of the jail institution, they should
seek help from other agencies to obtain basic commodities at a discount or receive them
for free.
