OBJECTIVE/AIM
The objective of developing an pollution tracker and alert system
using MQ-135 and Arduino is to create a cost-effective, reliable, and
accessible solution for real-time monitoring of air pollutants. This
initiative aims to enhance public health by providing individuals and
communities with timely information about air quality, empowering
them to make informed decisions that safeguard health, particularly
among vulnerable populations. Additionally, the system seeks to raise
environmental awareness by highlighting the impact of air pollution
and encouraging proactive measures to mitigate emissions and
improve overall air quality. Through the collection and analysis of air
quality data, the system aims to generate insights into pollution
trends and hotspots, facilitating evidence-based policymaking and
targeted interventions. By prioritizing accessibility and affordability,
the system ensures that even communities with limited resources or
technical expertise can benefit from its capabilities. Incorporating an
alert mechanism, the system serves as an early warning system,
notifying users of hazardous air quality conditions and enabling
prompt actions to minimize health risks. Ultimately, through
scalability, innovation, and collaboration, the air quality monitoring
and alert system strives to contribute to improved public health
outcomes, environmental sustainability, and community resilience in
the face of air pollution challenges.

TECHNICAL DETAILS
For the technical implementation of a pollution tracker and alert
system using MQ-135 and Arduino, several key components and
processes need consideration:

1. **MQ-135 Sensor**: This gas sensor detects various air pollutants

such as CO2, NH3, and VOCs. It operates based on changes in
conductivity in response to the concentration of these gases.

2. **Arduino Microcontroller**: Arduino serves as the central

processing unit for the system. It reads data from the MQ-135 sensor,
processes it, and controls the alert mechanism based on predefined
thresholds.

3. **Analog-to-Digital Conversion (ADC)**: The Arduino converts the

analog signal output from the MQ-135 sensor into digital data for
processing. This allows for accurate measurement and analysis of air
pollutant concentrations.

4. **Calibration**: Calibration of the MQ-135 sensor is essential to

ensure accurate readings. This involves exposing the sensor to known
concentrations of gases and adjusting the system's parameters
accordingly.
5. **Data Processing**: The Arduino processes the sensor data,
which may involve averaging multiple readings over time to account
for fluctuations and noise in the measurements.

6. **Alert Mechanism**: Implement an alert mechanism using visual

indicators (such as LEDs), audible alarms (buzzers), or digital
notifications (via a display or connected device) to warn users when
air pollutant concentrations exceed predefined thresholds.

7. **User Interface**: Develop a user interface, using simple LCD

display or a more sophisticated graphical interface, to provide real-
time feedback on air quality measurements and alert status.

8. **Power Supply**: a stable power supply for the system, either

through a mains adapter or batteries, depending on the deployment
scenario.
By addressing these technical details, the pollution tracker and alert
system can effectively measure, analyze, and communicate air
pollutant concentrations to users, promoting awareness and
facilitating timely action to mitigate health risks.

INNOVATIVENESS AND USEFULLNESS

The integration of MQ-135 sensor technology with Arduino
microcontrollers presents an innovative and highly useful solution for
pollution tracker and alert systems. By leveraging the capabilities of
Arduino, which offers flexibility, affordability, and ease of
programming, coupled with the accuracy and sensitivity of the MQ-
135 sensor, this system provides real-time insights into air pollutant
concentrations. What sets this solution apart is its accessibility to a
wide range of users, from individual homeowners concerned about
indoor air quality to municipalities aiming to monitor outdoor
pollution levels. The innovative aspect lies in its adaptability and
scalability, allowing for customization based on specific needs and
the integration of additional sensors or communication modules for
comprehensive environmental monitoring. Moreover, the system's
ability to generate alerts based on predefined thresholds ensures
timely notification of poor air quality conditions, empowering
individuals and communities to take proactive measures to protect
health and well-being. Overall, the pollution tracker and alert
system using MQ-135 and Arduino represent a significant
advancement in democratizing environmental monitoring
technology, offering both innovation and practical utility in
addressing air pollution challenges.
