Lesson No: 3 Timeframe: 1 Week


Learning Targets: At the end of the lesson, the students can:

a. Identify and describe the form content, and context of key Medieval works.
b. Define the critical terms listed below and how they relate to Early Medieval art.
c. Describe the four evangelists and their symbols.

I – INTRODUCTION

The teacher will start the class with a prayer.


Checking of attendance

A. Motivation : Know your STUFF


The teacher will ask the students to do the motivational activity. This activity aims to determine whether
an individual needs to see a doctor before joining any physical activity.
The teacher will ask the students to divide the class into 2 groups, and give them the task to provide their
own idea about the following words through illustrations. This activity aims to assess the prior knowledge
of the students’ regarding the topic to be given.

After the activity, the teacher will proceed to the linking statement to develop connections of the activity
and the lesson to be discussed.
B. Transition / Linking Statement

The 4 words might be different, if they were viewed individually but they are all have similarities when
viewed as a whole. These are all art resulting from the creative minds of the ancient people. Art had started
from an early age, although it might not be as complicated to what we have now. From the caves of Lascaux
in France, to the wonders of ancient Egypt’s pyramids and infrastructures, people have been expressing their
lives and intellect through art. The topic that we’ll be having from this time will be the prehistoric art to the
medieval art.

II – INTERACTION
This part of the lesson allows students to master the lesson. They will complete all the activities to fully
understand the lesson.

A. Learning Activities

Concept Notes: Open textbook on pages 75-86 and read about Prehistoric Art and Medieval Art.

Activity # 1: Organize your ART


The teacher will task the students to organize the different examples of arts provided
through a series of pictures.
The students must organize it according to where the pictures belong.
There will be 4 categories – petroglyphs, pictographs, megalithic art, and ancient Egypt
art.

Process Questions:
1. Based on the 4 categories provided, which of those can you say is the most expressive one
in terms of telling their life stories and achievements?
2. How did art develop through time? And how do they connect to one another?
3. If you were given the chance to draw your life in a cave, how will you describe it? (Provide
an illustration)

C. Assessment Technique
After doing the activity, the students will answer the following questions.

I. Instructions: Identify at least 3 examples of art under the 4 categories along with an own explanation
about the categories.

This part of the lesson allows students to value the importance of the lesson in real life situation.

After a few minutes of reflection, the students will answer the following questions.

Instructions: Give a short answer on the following questions.

1. Do you think each of the art mentioned are better than the other? Why?
2. In what way can knowing about the 4 different art help you as a student?
3. Does preserving and understanding this art important? Why?

Instructions: Create 4 concept mapping for Petroglyphs, Pictographs, Megalithic art, and Ancient Egypt art.
Provide 3 words which perfectly describes it.
