STRUCTURAL DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF SLAB B

ALONG LONG DIRECTION
I. CODE AND SPECIFICATIONS:
The following structural codes and specifications shall be used in the structural analysis and design
of the reinforced concrete sidewalls of the Underground Reinforced Concrete Tank.
1. National Structural Code of the Philippines 2015, NSCP 2015. Generally for the entire Analysis
and Design Requirements.

II. MATERIAL STRENGTHS:

The following materials strength shall follow the specifications used for the Sidewalls of the
Underground Reinforced Concrete Tank:
Material Properties As Per Original Design Criteria
Concrete Compressive Strength, f'c = 20.7 MPa (3000 Psi)
Reinforcement steel bars shall be deformed and shall conform to ASTM 615
12 mm dia. Bars Tensile Strength fy(12) = 228 MPa (Grade 33)
16 mm dia. Bars Tensile Strength fy(16) = 276 MPa (Grade 40)

III. DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS:

Dimensions of the slab/s:

L (length of long span) = 3500 mm

S (length of short span) = 2200 mm
Thickness = 150 mm
Dia. of reinforcement used = 12 mm
S/L or M = 0.63
fy = 228 Mpa
fc' = 20.7 Mpa

In designing the structure, Coefficient Method of Designing Two-Way Slab was used. The coefficient
method employs tables of moment coefficients for different slab edge conditions. The conditions are based on
elastic analysis but inelastic redistribution is accounted for as well.

The following equations can be used to estimate negative and positive moments in the two directions :
IV. LOAD COMBINATIONS:

Wu = 1.2WD + 1.6WL
WD = (23.54 kN/cu.m. x 0.15m) +
3 kPa (Superimposed Load)
WD = 6.531 kPa
WL = 4 kPa
Wu = 1.2 x 6.531 + 1.6 x 4
Wu = 14.24 kN/m2
