Assignment 3

Writing to Inform
Sthefanny Carrion Cobarrubias

1. Answer the following questions

1) What is the purpose of a media advisory?

A media advisory is an alert sent to the media to inform them about an
upcoming event without actually telling them the news. It includes the
information of who is coming and what is going to happen in order to lure
journalists to cover the event.

2) What is a major challenge of a media advisory?

The major challenge of a media advisory would be trying to obtain the
attention of the media with all the information they have upcoming massively
everyday. The media advisory needs to stand out. We need to provide all the
information for the event so they feel compelled to come to ours instead of
others.

3) What is the typical timing for posting an advisory?

Usually, it’s done 5 days previous. Then, the repeat is sent the day before the
event and, finally, the reminder on the same day of the event.

2. Write and format an advisory for this news release.
