As an exploratory studies major, I enrolled into Sports Media 101 out of curiosity and the

hope that it would be a subject I want to major in. I grew up around sports and I have
always had a passion for staying active. Also, I love watching sports with my friends and
family. It’s amazing how sports can bring people together.

Throughout this course we touched on a lot of topics concerning sport media

production, writing, and multimedia storytelling. I learned a lot about the impact and
importance of how sporting events are produced and illustrated to the public. It unifies
communities, fosters national identity, and can address social issues. The live sports
production, in particular, has seen a rise in popularity, requiring high-quality delivery to
meet viewer expectations. But, I mainly found the communication and business side of
sports most interesting. Building strong relationships with the media is essential for
positive coverage and successful crisis management. Additionally, utilizing various
media channels to engage with multiple audiences and create attention-grabbing
content.

Although I found it interesting at times, taking this class has shown me that I don’t
belong in the field of sports media. I enjoy being a consumer and I am not inclined to be
on the other side. Looking at my classmates, I am not nearly as much of a sports “nerd”
as everyone else. I discovered that I like to participate in sports and be physically active
more than engaging in conversation about who is going to win the next Super Bowl.
This class was very eye opening. It helped me decide that I want to study
communications, just not related to sports.
