Manuel Roxas (May 28 1946-April 15 1948)

About Manuel Roxas


Manuel Roxas was a Filipino lawyer and politician from the Philippines who led the
country as its fifth president from 1946 until his passing in 1948. After the United States
gave up its control over the Philippines, he became the first President of the Independent
Third Philippine Republic and briefly held the office of the third and final President of the
Commonwealth of the Philippines, from May 28, 1946, to July 4, 1946.

Contributions:
Manuel Roxas led the country for May 28 1946 to April 5 1948 and has a lot of
contributions for our country, some of them are:
-declaring independence from America and he negotiated the terms of Tyding mcduffie
act in 1934, which granted independence from the US
-reconstructed all of the damage done from WW2, and he focused on rehabilitating the
economy, infrastructure, and society.
-pursued a policy of close cooperation with the United States, forging strong diplomatic
ties and military alliances.

Carlos P. Garcia
(March 18 1957- December 30 1961)

About Carlos Garcia


The eighth president of the Philippines, Carlos P. Garcia served the country from
1957 to 1961. Garcia was born in Talibon, Bohol, Philippines on November 4,
1896. Garcia entered politics when he became representative of Bohol’s 3rd
district in the House of Representatives. He then served as a senator from 1945
to 1953. In 1953 he was the running mate of Ramon Magsaysay in the 1953
presidential election. He then served as vice president from 1953 to 1957. After
the death of Magsaysay in March 1957, he succeeded to the presidency. He won
a full term in the 1957 presidential election. He ran for a second full term as
president in the 1961 presidential election and was defeated by Vice President
Diosdado Macapagal.
Contributions:
-Filipino First policy: This policy heavily favored Filipino businessmen over foreign investors.
-Austerity Program: to make Filipinos live a simple and well but frugally life, the government being spent wisely, and
to be more organized and launch investments useful to people.
