Introductory Message
For the facilitator:
As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use
this module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while
allowing them to manage their own learning at home. Furthermore, you are
expected to encourage and assist the learners as they do the tasks included
in the module.

4. Do you still recall how to fill in the less than cumulative frequency?
Complete the table above.
5. Do you know how to get the Lower Boundary? Complete the table above.
A. QUARTILE
In computing the quartiles for grouped data, the formula below is used:
#$
"#$&
𝑄! = 𝐿𝐵 + & %
'𝑖
$'#
Example 1: Calculate the Q1, Q2, and Q3 of the Mathematics test scores of 50
students.
Scores Frequency
50 - 54 1
45 - 49 3
40 - 44 8
35 - 39 12
30 - 34 8
25 - 29 10
20 - 24 6
15 - 19 2
5
Solution: Add 1 column for the less than cumulative frequency.
Lower Boundary
Scores Frequency < Cumulative Frequency (subtract 0.5 from
the lower limits)
50 – 54 1 1 + 49 = 50 50 − 0.5 = 49.5
45 – 49 3 3 + 46 = 49 45 − 0.5 = 44.5
40 – 44 8 8 + 38 = 46 40 − 0.5 = 39.5
35 – 39 12 12 + 26 = 38 35 − 0.5 = 34.5
30 – 34 8 8 + 18 = 26 30 − 0.5 = 29.5
25 – 29 10 10 + 8 = 18 25 − 0.5 = 24.5
20 – 24 6 6+2 = 8 20 − 0.5 = 19.5

C. PERCENTILE
Percentiles are the ninety-nine score points which divide a distribution into
*
one hundred equal parts so that each part represents *22
of the data set. They are
used to characterize values according to the percentage below them.
N = total frequency
𝑐𝑓( = cumulative frequency of the class before the Pk class
𝑓4! = frequency of the Pk class
i = size of class interval
k = nth percentile, where n = 1, 2, 3, …, 97, 98, and 99
Example: Calculate the 85th percentile of the Mathematics test scores of 50 students.
Scores f <cf LB

Let Us Enhance
In your Math group chat, give your weight in kilogram and height in
centimeter. Copy the frequency distribution in your notebook because this
will be used in the next module.
1. Gather the data. Just choose either of the two categories between
height and weight. (The data must include all the students in your
section. Write the data in a separate sheet of paper)
2. Write the values in the table below:
Title:____________________________________________________________________
