GRADE: 10 QUARTER: 4 WEEK: 2 DAY: 1

COMPETENCY & Calculates a specified measure of position (e.g. 90 th percentile) of a set of data.
OBJECTIVES : (M10SP-IVb-1)
 calculate quartiles for grouped data

PROCEDURE: A. Preparation
 Routinary Activities:
 Prayer, Checking of Attendance, Reminders
 Simple recall about the measures of position for ungrouped data
B. Motivation

 The teacher divides the students into eight groups and lets them perform "FIND ME."
           Mechanics:
1. This activity should take no more than 2 minutes.
2. Each group should be given the following scrambled letters to form a word:
ADTA                LETQURIAS                  ORF               DOGPURE
3. Every correct word is equivalent to 1 point.
 After the activity, ask the following questions:
1. How do you find the activity?
2. Are the words connected to each other?
3. Who can connect the words?
4. What do you think it is?

C. Presentation

Present this example to the students:

Calculate the Q1, and Q2 of the Mathematics test scores of 50 students.
Scores Frequency

41- 45 8
36- 40 11
31- 35 9
26- 30 12
21 – 25 6

D.Discussion/Abstraction
 What must be determined first before computing the value?
 What is the Q1 class? How about the Q3 class?
 How will you determine the quartiles of the grouped data?
 What formula will be used?
Discuss the solution to the example presented.

E. Exercises

Calculate the Q3 of the scores of the 30 students in Mathematics Test. (By Group).

F. Generalization

How are quartiles for grouped data calculated?

G. Application

Let the students cite some instances where knowledge and skills about the quartiles for
grouped data can be applied. Let them justify their answers.

H. Evaluation

Directions: Complete the table and calculate the Q 1 and Q2 of the Mathematics test of 29
students.
