● Geography Location

❖ Is a province situated in Caraga Region XIII occupying the Northeastern section


of Mindanao. The province is one of the smallest island provinces in the country
compromising of 7 cities/municipalities covering the island of Dinagat: Basilisa,
Cagdianao, Dinagat, Libjo, Loreto, San Jose is the Capital of Dinagat Islands,
Tubajon.
❖ The province is called as a Mystical Island Province of Love.
❖ Dinagat has an approximate land area of 817.47 square kilometers, and roughly
has a coastline length of 334.71 kilometers. The island is situated at
approximately 10.1618, 125.5876.

● Language
❖ Dinagat Islands is predominantly a Cebuano-speaking province. However,
towns or the municipalities of Dinagat and Cagdianao are Surigaonon-speaking.
They also speak English and Filipino languages.

● History of the Province


❖ The Dinagat Islands was formerly part of Surigao Del Norte. The province was
established through Republic Act No. 9355 otherwise known as An Act Creating
the Province of Dinagat Islands, a law that was passed on October 2, 2006.
Legal challenges were lodged and later resolved by the Supreme Court that
affirmed the law’s constitutionality in 2012.
❖ In 1855, the municipalities of Dinagat Islands was formally established with 6
cities which is Loreto, Cagdianao, Libjo, Basilisa, Tubajon, San Jose.

❖ Bugkosan Festival is a founding anniversary of Dinagat Islands, held every 3rd
of December. It is a province-wide fest, it is a joyful celebration of solidarity of its
seven towns and bayanihan, a community spirit where people come together and
take part in a community project. The festival’s calendar includes sporting events,
competitions that showcase the talent, artistry, and creativity of its people,
entertainment, cultural activities, and some events that welcome the Christmas
season.
