Objectives: To understand the characteristics and formation of coral reefs in the


Caribbean, their importance, and the conditions necessary for their growth.

Instructions: - Create a Brochure on Coral Reefs.


- Use a Legal Size sheet of paper to create brochure with 4 Columns
EACH on both sides (a total of 6 columns)

Include the following information:

1. (a) The definition of a coral reef. 2 marks


(b) The names of the THREE types of coral reefs. 3 marks
(c) An example of EACH type within the Caribbean region.. 3 marks

2. Description of formation of the TWO types of coral reefs found in the Virgin
Islands (UK) 6 marks

3. A Map of the World showing THREE regions with extensive coral reefs.
The map MUST have the locations shaded and named correctly with a
KEY. 4 marks

4. Description of THREE importance of coral reefs to the Virgin Islands (UK),


using local pictures to support your answer. 6 marks

5. Outline of FIVE conditions necessary for the successful formation of coral


reefs in the Caribbean. 5 marks

6. Use illustrations to show THREE negative impacts of tourism on coral


reefs. 3 marsks

7. Name TWO government agencies/department responsible for the


monitoring, sensitising and educating the population, and protecting the
coral reefs in the Virgin Islands (UK) 2 marks
