Value of Home gardening

Home gardening has become increasingly popular in Sri Lanka due

to lockdowns and the increasing prices of the vegetables and fruits.
This has made the people grow their own fresh fruits and
vegetables.
The government has also promoted home gardening concept by
supplying seeds and other assistance. TV programs on home
gardening such as making compost fertilizer, greenhouse
gardening etc have provided useful knowledge to the people.
Growing vegetables in our own garden has a twofold advantage for
us. Firstly, we can eat vegetables and fruits free of chemicals.
Secondly, we can get an immense sense of self-satisfaction from
gardening.
Home gardening can contribute to the food security of the nation
while making us happier and healthier.
The Extiction of Animals
Animals play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of our
planet's ecosystems. Unfortunately, some animals face the threat of
extinction due to changes in their environment. This problem
arises when the places where they live, find food, and raise their
families undergo significant alterations.
One major factor leading to animal extinction is habitat
destruction. As humans expand cities, cut down forests, and pollute
water sources, animals lose their homes. Without a suitable habitat,
many creatures struggle to survive and reproduce, eventually
leading to a decline in their populations.
Climate change is another critical factor impacting animals. As
temperatures rise and weather patterns shift, some species find it
challenging to adapt. Polar bears, for example, face a shrinking
habitat as ice melts in the Arctic. This makes it harder for them to
hunt for food and raise their cubs.
Human activities also contribute to pollution, affecting both land
and water. Toxic chemicals harm animals directly or contaminate
their food sources, causing health problems and reducing their
chances of survival.
In conclusion, the extinction of animals due to environmental
changes is a serious issue that requires our attention. By
understanding the impact of our actions on the natural world, we
can work together to protect and preserve the diverse array of
species that share our planet.

Speech on Keeping Our Environment Clean (In
easier language):
Good Morning Everybody,
Today, I want to talk about something very important: keeping our
environment clean. Our environment isn't just trees and rivers; it's
everything around us, like our school and our homes. So, why is it
important to keep it clean?
Firstly, a clean environment helps keep us healthy. When we keep
things tidy and dispose our trash properly, we stop germs from
spreading. That means fewer sick days for all of us!
Secondly, a clean environment makes our school look awesome!
Just like we feel good when we wear clean clothes, our school looks
better when it's clean. It's like giving our school a makeover!
And guess what? A clean school helps us learn better too! When our
classrooms and playgrounds are clean, we can concentrate more on
our studies and have fun learning new things.
So, let's all do our part to keep our environment clean. Let's pick up
trash, use bins properly, and help out whenever we can. Together,
we can make our school and our world a cleaner, happier place for
everyone!
Thanks for listening!
A Speech on Artificial Intelligence

Good morning, everyone!

Today, I want to talk to you about something very exciting—
artificial intelligence, or AI for short. AI is like having a really smart
robot friend who can help us do all sorts of things.
Imagine if you had a robot friend who could help you with your
homework, remind you to brush your teeth, or even play games
with you! That's what AI can do. It's like magic, but with computers!
But do you know what's even cooler? We can teach AI to learn and
get better at things, just like how you learn new things every day.
Isn't that amazing?
Now, some people might think AI is a little scary, like in the movies,
but don't worry! AI is just here to help us and make our lives easier.
It's like having a super helper who never gets tired.
So, next time you hear about artificial intelligence, remember that
it's just like having a really smart friend who wants to make the
world a better place for all of us.
Thank you for listening, and remember, the future is full of exciting
possibilities with AI!
Road Safety
In Sri Lanka, road accidents happen every day, and they can lead to
injuries or even death. It's crucial for all of us to learn how to use
the roads safely. No one wishes to be in an accident.
As the roads are busy, we need to be cautious when crossing them.
It's best to use a crosswalk or a footbridge if available. Never dash
across the road suddenly; that's asking for trouble. If there are no
crossings, we should carefully check both sides and only cross
when it's safe.
When taking the bus to school, don't try to board or exit a moving
bus. I once did and got dragged a short distance, narrowly avoiding
a serious accident. We should also behave responsibly on the bus to
prevent sudden jolts.
Cycling can be risky too. Stay close to the side of the road, obey
traffic rules, and ensure your bicycle is in good condition with
working brakes and lights.
While accidents can't be entirely prevented, being alert on the
roads is essential. We must always be aware of our surroundings
and take necessary precautions to avoid danger. Road safety
depends on our responsible use of the roads. Use them with care,
and we'll continue to enjoy them for a long time. Use them
recklessly, and we may lose that privilege forever.
Write a story using the following storyline given. The storyline can
be used at the beginning in the story: One day I was talking to my
friend, Suddenly,...

One day I was talking to my friend, Suddenly, we heard a loud

noise. It sounded like something crashed nearby. We looked around
and saw a big truck had overturned on the road. Everyone was
shouting and running towards the truck to help. My friend and I
also rushed to see if we could do anything.
There was chaos all around as people tried to help the driver who
was stuck inside the truck. Some people were calling for an
ambulance while others were trying to clear the road. My friend
and I joined in, helping to move some of the smaller things that had
fallen out of the truck.
Finally, the ambulance arrived, and the driver was taken to the
hospital. Luckily, he wasn't seriously hurt, but it was still a scary
experience for everyone. After everything was sorted out, my
friend and I went back home, feeling grateful that we could help in
some way.
That day, I learned that you never know when something
unexpected might happen. But it's important to stay calm and help
others when they need it. Even the smallest act of kindness can
make a big difference.
1. Sri Lanka's economic crisis
Sri Lanka’s current economic crisis is a result of several years of mismanagement and lack of good
governance. Insufficient foreign reserves at Sri Lanka’s Central Bank and loss of access to
international capital markets resulted in the country defaulting on debt for the first time in history.
Unchecked external borrowings, tax cuts that widened the existing budget deficit, the chemical
fertiliser imports ban and the sudden floating of the Sri Lankan rupee are among several factors that
contributed to the economic collapse. Tourism, together with apparel and tea exports – some of Sri
Lanka’s main income sources – were affected in recent years due to various internal and external
factors such as the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks followed by COVID-19 in 2020. Now, the economic
crisis presents multiple challenges including severe threats to nutrition, food security, healthcare,
and education.
2. An Essay on Drug Addiction
Drug Addiction is one of the serious problems of the present times. The narcotics like heroin, hashish,
ice and brown-sugar are commonly called drugs and young men and women either take these drugs
orally or inhale their smoke.

Sociologist says that drug-addiction is an addiction which has come to Sri Lanka and other oriental
countries from the western-countries. The Sri Lankans are imitating the west and becoming drug-
addicts. In the modern Sri Lankan society there are several family-problems. The lack of love and
affection forces youths to get addicted to drugs. Sometimes the peer pressure tempts the youth to
become an addict.
Drug-addicts must be treated with love and kindness. The society should take strong measures to
control the smugglers of drugs and drug-traffickers. There are laws of drug-control all over the
world, yet drug-addiction is increasing gradually. What is needed an anti-drugs consciousness which
can be instilled at the young age among the youth of Sri Lanka.

3. Sources of Information Essay:

Today we live in an age of information with internet becoming the super highway of information.
Books have been the traditional source of information. There are, however, many other sources of
information which should not be overlooked. Such sources include: newspapers, journals, radio or
TV programmes, leaflets, photographs etc. Newspapers supply us updated information while TV
programs can present information in a visually appealing manner. So are the photographs.
It is important to understand that all information is not reliable. A document can be easily forged or
altered, especially on the internet where anybody can publish anything. It is therefore necessary to
use judgement when using information.

4. An essay on saving electricity;

We need electricity at every moment and in every walk of life. Electricity is considered the soul or the
life without which the entire world remains dead and dormant. Our health, education, agriculture,
engineering and other technical activities all now depend on electricity.
The surgeon in the operation theater, the engineer in the factory, the motor-mechanic in the garage,
the officer in the office, the passengers at the railway platform, all are enjoying the service rendered
by electricity. Many means of modern transportation depends upon electricity. Trams and electric
trains in big cities serve thousands of people every-day. Electricity has given a great boost to modern
civilized life.
Generation of electricity costs a huge amount of money and it can be a heavy drain on the economy
of the country. Therefore, it essential that we must save electricity as much as possible. Even our
small attempts to save electricity will be helpful. At home, we should be very careful regarding the
electric apparatus used by us. Fans, lights, air-conditioners, refrigerators, water heaters should be
used properly. Television sets should be turned off when we do not need them. We should use lights
and bulbs that consume less power.
