Lesson Title: Exploring Collocations

Objective:

 Students will be able to understand the concept of collocations.


 Students will be able to identify and use common collocations in sentences.

 Whiteboard and markers


 Handouts with collocation exercises
 Worksheet with collocation activities
 Examples of collocations

Lesson Plan:

Introduction (10 minutes):

1. Start the lesson by explaining to students what collocations are - words that are often used together.
2. Provide examples of common collocations such as "make a decision," "take a break," "have a good
time," etc.
3. Ask students to think of other collocations they are familiar with and share them with the class.

Activity 1 - Matching Exercise (15 minutes):

1. Distribute the handout with collocation exercises to the students.


2. Ask students to match the words on one side with their corresponding collocations on the other side.
3. Review the answers as a class and discuss any questions or difficulties.

Activity 2 - Sentence Completion (15 minutes):

1. Provide students with a worksheet containing sentences with missing collocations.


2. Ask students to fill in the blanks with the appropriate collocations.
3. Review the completed sentences together and discuss any errors or misconceptions.

Activity 3 - Group Discussion (10 minutes):

1. Divide the class into small groups and ask them to create sentences using the collocations they have
learned.
2. Encourage students to be creative and use a variety of collocations in their sentences.
3. Have each group share their sentences with the class.

Conclusion (5 minutes):

1. Summarize the key points of the lesson on collocations.


2. Encourage students to continue practicing and using collocations in their writing and speaking.

Homework: Assign students to write a short paragraph using at least five different collocations they have
learned in class.
