Activity A

Level & Number of Students: low intermediate/ 12 students

Activity Duration: 50 minutes
Assumptions: Students have already studied travel brochures and learned the target vocabulary of the
lesson. They will be able to recall most of the vocabulary. Students have already learned the future simple
verb tense.
Aims/Objectives: By the end of this activity, the students will be able to…
 use the travel-related vocabulary in the context of planning a trip.
 use the future simple tense with “will” or “be going to” to describe a future trip.
 use the following vocabulary to talk about travel: tour guide, travel agent, accommodations,
double bed, rent-a-car, public transportation, mode of transportation, itinerary, sightseeing,
famous landmarks, admission tickets
Materials: Four travel brochures that are in English, five copies of worksheet A, and five copies of
worksheet B.

Step 1 (10 min) Brochure Review

The teacher puts students into groups of three and tells them to get out the travel brochures that
were studied in the last lesson. The teacher writes the following on the board:
Talk in your group. Answer these questions:
1. What are each of these brochures selling?
2. Do you think each brochure did a good job of selling the place? Why or why not?

Step 2 (15 min) Choose a Place

The teacher tells the students to imagine the following: The school will take you to one of the
places in the brochures. Which of these places would you like to visit? In your group, talk and
choose one place. Write your answers on worksheet A. You will then present your ideas to the
class for 2-3 minutes. After the presentations, we will vote on the best location together. Each
person in your group needs to speak in the presentation.

Step 3 (20-25 min) Listen and Vote

Teacher hands out one Worksheet B to each group and tells the class that they should write notes
in the boxes for each group as they present. The teacher then asks for a group volunteer to present
first. After everyone has presented, the teacher goes over Worksheet B as a class and then has a
blind vote for which group’s overall idea is the best (teachers can have the students simply close
their eyes and raise their hands; this is optional).
