Exploring Period Styles in Architectural Interiors across Building Typologies

Objective: To investigate the influence of historical period styles on architectural interiors


across various building typologies. Students will analyze, interpret, and create interior designs
that integrate specific period styles within different building contexts.
Part 1: Research and Analysis
1. Building Typology Selection:
• There will be an assigned building typology for your investigation.
2. Choose a Period Style:
• There will be an assigned period style (e.g., Baroque, Art Deco, Renaissance)
that interests you. Consider its characteristics, cultural context, and notable
features.
3. Building Typology Selection:
• There will be an assigned building typology for your investigation.
4. Research Period Influence:
• Investigate how your chosen period style has influenced interiors within each
selected building typology. Examine historical examples and key features.
5. Mood Boards:
• Create mood boards for each building typology, incorporating images, colors,
textures, and materials that represent your chosen period style.
Part 2: Concept Development
• Develop an interior concept applying your chosen period style. Consider
furniture, lighting, and spatial arrangement. Focus on creating a cohesive and
immersive customer experience. Consider functionality, user experience, and the
cultural significance of the space (if any)
Part 3: Presentation
1. Presentation:
• Create a presentation showcasing your research, mood boards, and conceptual
designs including, floor plans and elevations , electrical, plumbing, mechanical,
reflected ceiling plan, floor pattern and other details you deemed important for
the building typology assigned to your group.
2. Explanation and Reflection:
• Provide a written explanation of your design choices, discussing how the chosen
period style enhances the aesthetic and functional aspects of each interior.
3. Peer Review (exhibit):
• Share your presentation with the community for constructive feedback. Consider
how the period style contributes to the overall design narrative.
Assessment Criteria:
• Thoroughness of historical research on the chosen period style.
• Creativity in applying the period style to different building typologies.
• Clarity and coherence of design concepts.
• Effective use of mood boards and visual communication.
• Thoughtful reflection on the integration of period style within each interior.

Submission: Submit your presentation, written explanation, and any additional supporting
documents through the designated platform by the assigned deadline.
