ABSTRACT
During my internship at the Program Production Technical Department of the
Thanh Hoa Provincial Radio and Television Station, I was afforded the invaluable
opportunity to immerse myself in real-world work scenarios, collaborate closely with
colleagues, and apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings. This internship
experience has truly been a cornerstone of my professional development.
Throughout the duration of the internship, I found myself delving deeper into the
intricacies of the job, experiencing significant personal growth, and acquiring a wealth
of knowledge. One aspect in which I notably honed my skills was in English
translation. Assigned with the task of translating international news articles and
interpreting foreign news broadcasts, I was able to refine my translation abilities and
broaden my understanding of global events. Additionally, I took on the responsibility of
editing segments for various projects within the Program Production Technical
Department, further enhancing my proficiency in this area.
This internship report serves as a comprehensive reflection of my internship
journey. It not only provides an in-depth overview of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Radio
and Television Station, encompassing its functions, tasks, organizational structure, and
personnel, but also delves into the fundamental English language knowledge I acquired
during the internship, along with the invaluable skills and experiences I gained along
the way.
Furthermore, drawing from my internship experience, I have formulated several
suggestions aimed at enhancing the quality of internships for English Language
students at the university. These suggestions are geared towards better preparing
students for the demands of the practical work environment they are likely to encounter
upon graduation. By implementing these recommendations, it is my hope that future
interns will be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in their
chosen field.

Editorial Board of Thanh Hoa Radio and Television Station has gradually enhanced the
quality of programs and innovated the way news is delivered and programs are edited,
with the aim of providing timely news and events to the audience through radio and
television.
Regarding technology, Thanh Hoa Radio and Television Station has
implemented digitization in the production and broadcasting of radio and television
programs for the local area. They have also applied non-linear technology in program
production and live broadcasting activities through satellite systems, fiber optic cables,
and other means. The station's leadership stated, "The broadcasting production center,
along with the accompanying technical equipment system, has made significant
progress in the production and transmission of radio and television programs. Currently,
Thanh Hoa Radio and Television Station has invested in three servers for data
transmission and automated broadcasting. With a 125m tall antenna tower, four
3
transmitters: 10KW, 5KW, and two 1KW transmitters broadcasting on channels TN1
and TN2, a 1KW FM broadcasting transmitter, and a 10KW AM broadcasting
transmitter for the provincial station, along with the broadcasting and transmission
systems at district level, including 7 television relay stations, 37 radio transmission
stations, 42 FM broadcasting stations, and 32 satellite reception points for residential
clusters, the station has achieved coverage of 100% for radio broadcasting and over
90% for television broadcasting across the province."
The report from Thanh Hoa Radio and Television Station states that over the
years, there have been significant changes and improvements in the radio and television
programs. The station's leadership mentioned, "After the reestablishment of the
province in 1997, Thanh Hoa Radio and Television Station could only broadcast three
television programs per week and have a total of 2 hours of radio broadcasting each
day. By 2007, the station increased the daily local radio broadcasting to 6 hours and 20
minutes, and the television programs were broadcasted for 9 hours in three sessions:
morning, noon, and evening, in three languages: Vietnamese, Tày-Nùng, and Dao. In
2008, the local radio broadcasting duration increased to over 7 hours, and the television
programs expanded to 10 hours per day. From January 1, 2009, the Thanh Hoa
television programs extended to 17 hours, and from July 1, 2009, it further increased to
22 hours per day on both channels TN1 and TN2."
In addition to improving the quality of daily news programs, the station
collaborated with various sectors to produce 35 segments, specialized programs,
magazines for television, and over 30 segments, specialized programs for radio.
Particularly, starting from January 2006, the station initiated a trial television program
in the Dao language, broadcasting one program per month. By January 2007, it
increased to two programs per month, and from October 2008, it became a weekly
broadcast. The introduction and expansion of ethnic language programs played an
important role in conveying the Party's policies, state laws, and provincial messages to
ethnic communities. In 2013, to meet the increasing demand for information from
people within and outside the province, Thanh Hoa Radio and Television Station began
broadcasting channel TN1 via the VINASAT1 satellite, ensuring coverage throughout
Vietnam and neighboring regions. The issue of coverage in remote areas was addressed
comprehensively, and the duration of TN1 television program broadcasting became 24
hours a day from September 15, 2013, while TN2 broadcasted for 18 hours a day.
Radio broadcasting was conducted for 15 hours a day (since September 2013), with two

Hoa Gameshow," "Shining Little Stars Gameshow," "TTV Convergence," "Night
Music by the Lake," "Music Stories," and more.
Every year, Thanh Hoa Radio and Television produces dozens of documentary

the North Central Coast. Regular guest programs are organized to align with the trend
of quick and responsive information dissemination."
"Ethnic Language Programs

that have dedicated programs in the Thai and Mong languages for ethnic minority
communities. Thanh Hoa Radio and Television allocates a significant amount of airtime
(an average of 45 minutes per day for both radio and television) to reflect and convey

5
information and issues related to ethnic minority communities, showcasing the cultural
diversity of the mountainous regions and ethnic groups in the province.
Weekly and monthly, Thanh Hoa Radio and Television also produces news
articles, programs, sections, and magazines for broadcast on VTV5 - Vietnam
Television Station."
"International Programs

news bulletins (35 minutes) and 4 international radio news bulletins (35 minutes). In
addition, the station also features 11 other specialized segments (100 minutes per day)

Cultural Arts, Social Culture, Author and Works, Folk Songs and Traditional Music,
Children's Music, Sports Highlights, Music Stories, Radio Stories, TTV Convergence,
Echoes of Thanh Hoa, Shining Little Stars, Night Music by the Lake, and more."
"Major Programs (Live Broadcasting, Documentary Series, Documentary Films)
Every year, Thanh Hoa Radio and Television is entrusted by the Provincial
People's Committee to take charge of organizing numerous live television broadcasts.
Additionally, the station collaborates with Vietnam Television Station, Voice of
Vietnam, VTC Digital Television Station, and other channels to produce documentary
series, documentary films, and carry out large-scale television productions."
1.5 Annual activities of Thanh Hoa Radio and Television
"The Exhibition - Fair - Advertising Center has established itself as a legitimate
and effective propaganda agency in organizing exhibitions, fairs, and advertising
activities in the province. The quality of exhibitions has been gradually improved,
effectively fulfilling the task of disseminating the Party's orientations and policies. The
center has also invested in improving its infrastructure, technical equipment, and
focused on training and developing human resources to meet the increasing political
tasks and the public's demand for information consumption. In recent years, on average,
the center organizes 10-12 on-site and mobile exhibitions (within and outside the
province), as well as several provincial fairs with up to 500 booths. Additionally, the

6
center has conducted numerous exhibitions on television and digital platforms such as
YouTube and fan pages.
Although the center has invested in a spacious headquarters and exhibition
grounds, which provide favorable conditions for organizing diverse and large-scale fairs
and exhibitions, it has not fully exploited the potential of outdoor exhibition spaces due
to the lack of synchronized equipment and technical infrastructure, which lags behind
the development and changes of modern technology.
To ensure regular and stable digitized operations and meet the access needs of a
wide range of people, the center needs to establish an electronic information platform
and related devices to support digital exhibitions, store exhibition-related documents
and materials, and conduct online fairs. This approach is in line with the development
of information technology and contributes to the effective implementation of Thanh
Hoa province's digital transformation goals."
"In recent years, the Broadcasting, Television, and Event Services Center has
effectively carried out the construction, upgrade, repair, and installation of broadcasting
and television equipment for radio stations in communes, wards, towns, villages, and
hamlets across the province. Since assuming the additional functions of media
communication and event organization, the center has established its brand in
producing radio and television broadcasts, music programs, advertising, films, and
documentaries aired on Thanh Hoa Radio and Television Station and other radio and
television stations. The center has also successfully organized numerous important
events within and outside the province, including conferences, seminars, press
conferences, inaugurations, anniversaries, ground-breaking ceremonies, construction
commencement, fairs, roadshows, forums, year-end parties, and gala dinners.
However, the center currently faces a shortage of labor force, both in terms of
content and technical expertise, with the majority lacking specialized training and
relying on external partners. Additionally, being a self-financing unit with irregular
funding, it lacks mechanisms to attract high-quality human resources. The infrastructure
and technical equipment are also inadequate and outdated, resulting in the need to
frequently rent equipment when carrying out tasks."

Hoa Radio and Television until 2030

intern at the Thanh Hoa Provincial Radio and Television Station, tasked with reading
and analyzing international online articles, a robust foundation in the English language
is vital. This essay will discuss the key aspects of English language knowledge and
skills that are necessary for effectively engaging with and understanding such content.
First and foremost, a strong grasp of English grammar is fundamental.
Understanding the rules of grammar enables you to decode sentence structures, identify
verb tenses, and comprehend the relationships between different parts of a sentence. It
allows you to correctly interpret the intended meaning of the text and avoid
misinterpretation or confusion. Proficiency in grammar facilitates accurate
comprehension, ensuring that you can extract the main ideas and nuances from the
articles you read.
Vocabulary is another critical component of English language proficiency. A
wide-ranging vocabulary allows you to comprehend and interpret the meaning of words
and phrases used in international online articles. Additionally, it enables you to grasp
the context and connotations embedded within the text. Building a rich vocabulary
involves acquiring a broad range of words through extensive reading, engaging with
various genres and topics. It is important to develop strategies for learning new words,
such as utilizing context clues, employing online dictionaries, and creating personalized
vocabulary lists.
Reading comprehension skills are paramount in effectively understanding
international online articles. Proficient reading comprehension involves the ability to
identify main ideas, recognize supporting details, and infer meaning from context. It
also requires the capacity to identify rhetorical devices, such as figurative language or
persuasive techniques, employed by authors. Developing effective reading strategies,
such as skimming and scanning for information, actively engaging with the text through

14
annotation or summarization, and identifying the author's purpose and tone, enhances
reading comprehension abilities.
Cultural awareness and intercultural competence are essential when engaging

you better understand the perspectives, values, and beliefs embedded within the text. It
enables you to recognize cultural references, symbols, and allusions, providing a deeper
understanding of the content. Developing intercultural competence involves expanding
your knowledge of diverse cultures, engaging in cross-cultural communication, and
being open-minded and respectful towards different worldviews.
Critical thinking skills are invaluable for analyzing and evaluating international
online articles. Being able to think critically allows you to assess the credibility and
reliability of sources, identify biases or fallacies in arguments, and distinguish between
fact and opinion. Critical thinking empowers you to question assumptions, draw logical
conclusions, and form well-supported arguments. Developing critical thinking skills
involves practicing evidence-based reasoning, evaluating sources for accuracy and
objectivity, and engaging in intellectual discourse.
Effective note-taking strategies contribute to better comprehension and retention
of information from international online articles. Taking concise and organized notes
helps you capture key points, significant details, and supporting evidence. It facilitates
the synthesis of information and aids in the retrieval of relevant information when
needed. Implementing note-taking techniques, such as using headings, bullet points, or
visual diagrams, enhances the organization and accessibility of information.
Lastly, developing effective online research skills is essential for accessing and
navigating international online articles. Proficiency in conducting online research
enables you to locate reliable sources, access archives, and retrieve relevant information
efficiently. It involves utilizing search engines effectively, evaluating the credibility of
websites, and employing advanced search techniques to refine search results.
Familiarity with online databases, academic journals, and reputable news sources
enhances the quality and accuracy of the information you gather.
In conclusion, a strong foundation in the English language is crucial for
successfully reading and comprehending international online articles. Proficiency in
grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, cultural awareness, critical thinking,
note-taking, and online research skills are the key components of this foundation.

2.1.4 Journalism skills in English
In English, the skill of Writing is different from the skill of Speaking because it
is not a natural ability that we possess, even in our native language - this skill needs to

20
be regularly honed. Below are some methods to help learners practice Writing in
English proficiently, which we would like to share with you.
Understanding the genre of writing
To start practicing the skill of Writing, the first thing you need to do is find a
topic (or sometimes referred to as a "Topic") and choose a writing style that is suitable
for that topic. You can find writing topics in English everywhere, from a menu to a
wedding invitation, a newspaper to a description of real estate properties.
Note: For similar topics, they will have shared features, structure, level of
formality, and similar vocabulary, and vice versa. Clearly, the way you write a product
complaint letter will be very different from how you write a creative poem.
Nowadays, formal writing styles are often used in academia and business.
However, you will need to learn how to use appropriate language and conventions for
specific contexts.
Stages of composing a piece of writing
Here are the stages from preparation to completion of a written piece for those
who want to improve their Writing skills. However, in some cases, it is not necessary to
go through all these steps. The important thing is to base it on the genre you want to
write or whether there are any time constraints.
Generating ideas for the writing
This is the first step in approaching the writing process. Even when writing a
regular complaint letter, you still need to generate ideas so that the content is
meaningful and helps the reader understand the key points you want to emphasize.
Next, prepare blank pieces of paper to write down all your ideas about the topic.
Then, categorize and group these ideas, with each group containing the best 3
ideas. You can use all these ideas in your writing or only use a few. This is not a
problem because this preparation step is only to help you overcome the barrier of "I
can't think of anything to write."
Focus on the main idea
After listing the ideas on paper, take a few minutes to think about which idea is
the most important or most closely related to the topic you are preparing to write about.
In fact, if it's a good idea, you can make it the centerpiece of your writing.
When writing English essays, this is a quite important step and can be seen as a
"mind map." In English classes, teachers often encourage their students to write all the
ideas on the board and may accompany them with illustrations to stimulate students to
come up with even more ideas.

21
When presenting ideas, don't worry too much about grammar or spelling errors.
You should also prepare a dictionary or any technology that can help you deal with
vocabulary that you don't know. Don't let anything hinder your ideas.
Refer to sample essays
After having ideas, try to refer to the content of articles with similar topics to
help you improve your awareness of the genre and gain a better understanding of the
English conventions used for each specific type of writing. In addition, these sample
essays will provide you with valuable vocabulary and help you identify language
features and general rules for each genre of writing so that you can apply them
effectively to your own writing.
Determining the structure and function of each paragraph in your writing is
essential to ensure coherence and understand why topic sentences play an important
role, especially when writing English essays.
Organizing ideas
After grasping the above steps, now you will proceed to organize your own ideas
in a similar manner. You need to determine how many paragraphs your writing will
have and what the main points in each paragraph will be. You can outline your ideas on
paper.
Practicing writing skills
For famous writers, authors, or professional writers, they often go through a
struggle with multiple drafts before producing a final piece of work.
However, this is not always feasible, especially when participating in English
writing competitions with time constraints. But when practicing writing skills at home
or in a regular English class, this can definitely be done.
Evaluation
After having a draft of your writing and you are working on the second version,
take a moment to evaluate what you like and dislike about the content, ideas in your
initial draft to learn from and improve upon when putting pen to paper for the second
draft. At this stage, temporarily set aside grammar and spelling errors as they are not
crucial yet.
Review
Upon completing the final draft, you should review your writing and thoroughly check
for grammar and spelling details. Then, give it to a teacher or someone proficient in
English to help you correct any remaining issues, so that you can learn from and
improve upon your mistakes.

22
2.1.5 Presenting skills in English
Here are some coherent paragraphs in English, around 600 words, about skills
for hosting or presenting programs in English:
Hosting or presenting a program in English requires a diverse set of skills that go
beyond just language proficiency. A great host needs to be articulate, engaging,
knowledgeable and able to think on their feet. Whether it's a news broadcast, talk show,
podcast or any other format, there are some essential skills that can help elevate your
performance.
Firstly, excellent command over the English language is absolutely crucial. As a
host, you are the face and voice of the program, so diction, pronunciation, vocabulary
and grammar need to be impeccable. Having a wide vocabulary allows you to explain
complex topics clearly without getting tongue-tied. Work on eliminating filler words
like "uh", "um", "like", etc. from your speech. Practice reading scripts aloud to improve
enunciation and flow.
However, language skills alone are not enough. A great presenter needs to be a
strong communicator adept at establishing rapport with the audience effortlessly. This
involves speaking in a natural, conversational style rather than sounding stilted or
scripted. Use vocal variety - vary your pitch, pace, volume and intonation to keep things
engaging. Make purposeful pauses and use hand gestures for emphasis where
appropriate.
Extensive research and preparation are key to being a well-informed,
authoritative host. Have a solid understanding of the topics you'll be discussing and
anticipate potential questions. But don't just regurgitate facts - analyze, interpret and
add your own insights to drive substantive discussions. For interviews, research your
guests thoroughly and formulate intelligent questions that go beyond surface-level.
Thinking critically and being able to improvise are also vital presenter skills.
You may have to veer off-script, rephrase questions, or steer conversations in new
directions based on how things unfold live. Don't get flustered - embrace the
spontaneity and react calmly and fast. An ability to banter lightheartedly while staying
focused is very useful.
Additionally, talented hosts have a magnetic screen presence and personality.
Project confidence, enthusiasm and energy to keep viewers captivated. Use body
language and facial expressions to supplement your words. Most importantly, be
authentic - let your personality shine through rather than putting on an act. Audiences
respond to genuineness.
Finally, experience and consistent practice are crucial for honing these skills.
Record yourself and Self-critique objectively to identify areas for improvement. Seek
23
feedback from mentors, colleagues and audiences. Develop a style and persona that
works for you, but also be amenable to reinventing yourself as needed.
Mastering English presentation skills takes dedication, hard work and self-
awareness. But once acquired, these abilities open doors to exciting opportunities across
diverse fields like broadcasting, digital media, corporate communications and more.

2.2. Your major tasks

During the internship, my responsibilities were divided into distinct phases:

and skills within this domain.
2.3.2.Management techniques observed
During my internship, I had the opportunity to observe and learn various
management techniques employed in the Program Production Department of the
television station:
One of the critical management approaches I witnessed was project
management. There was a strong emphasis on detailed planning and organization for
each production phase, including meticulous scheduling, budgeting, and assigning
specific tasks to team members. Additionally, close progress monitoring and efficient
issue resolution were implemented to ensure seamless project execution.
25
Human resource management emerged as an integral component of project
management. I observed effective communication practices among team members,
fostering a collaborative spirit, and efficient conflict resolution strategies.
Leadership skills were also prominently demonstrated through inspiring team
members, making sound decisions, and taking responsibility for project outcomes. I
gained valuable insights into leadership dynamics within the context of television
program production.
Furthermore, other management techniques such as quality management, risk
management, and time management were rigorously applied. Ensuring program quality,
identifying and assessing potential risks, and effective time management were
recognized as key factors contributing to project success.
It became evident that applying effective management techniques not only
enhances work efficiency but also plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality of the
television programs produced.
2.3.3.Problems encountered
During the internship, I encountered several obstacles that posed challenges:
Linguistic barriers: Communication fluency: My limited English proficiency
hindered my ability to communicate effectively with team members. Comprehension
issues: At times, I struggled to grasp the intended meanings of requests, instructions, or
conveyed information accurately. Communication apprehension: The fear of making
mistakes often made me hesitant to engage in conversations, leading to missed crucial
information or an inability to complete tasks efficiently.
Professional hurdles: Industry knowledge gaps: I lacked comprehensive
knowledge about the procedures, regulations, and specialized terminology prevalent in
the television industry. Practical experience deficiency: The absence of hands-on
experience made it difficult for me to execute assigned tasks seamlessly. Pace
adaptation: Keeping up with the fast-paced and dynamic nature of work in the
television industry proved challenging.
Psychological pressures: Work stress: High workload and pressure had the
potential to impact my mental well-being adversely. Isolation concerns: I may have
experienced feelings of isolation due to a lack of adequate support or guidance from
team members. Confidence erosion: Facing numerous obstacles simultaneously could
potentially lead to a diminished sense of confidence in my abilities.
2.3.5. Lesson learned
After completing my internship at the Television Program Production
Department, I gained invaluable lessons and insights:

26
Translation Proficiency: Prior to translating a text, it is crucial to carefully read
and identify challenging passages or ambiguous meanings. Recognizing that words or
phrases can have multiple interpretations and expressions, the translation process
should strive to convey the author's intended meaning accurately.
During translation, utilizing English/Vietnamese phrase equivalents and
accurately rendering idiomatic expressions are essential to precisely express the
meaning when converting between the two languages.
Avoiding verbatim or word-for-word translation is advisable, as it can lead to
inaccuracies and fail to capture the author's intended ideas. Instead, it is necessary to
comprehend the meaning at the sentence and paragraph level, rather than focusing
solely on individual words.
However, deviating too far from the literal meaning should also be avoided, as
the translation may lose fidelity to the original text. Therefore, it is crucial to
judiciously select which ideas to retain and discard, while editing the translated
sentences to remain faithful to the source material.
Utilizing uncommon, outdated, or overly technical language should be avoided,
as it may hinder reader comprehension and undermine effective communication.
Instead, opting for familiar and easily understandable terminology is recommended for
translation purposes.
Excessive use of synonyms can disrupt the flow of a translated document. When
encountering long, complex sentences, it may be advisable to break them into shorter
segments for easier translation, while ensuring that the overall meaning remains
consistent with the original text when reassembled.
Maintaining cohesion, clear language, and coherence throughout the translated
document, while accurately conveying the meaning compared to the original text, is of
paramount importance.
In addition to practicing and refining the above skills, developing a deeper
understanding of English for specific purposes across various fields, such as business,
banking, construction, medicine, and environmental sciences, can greatly enhance the
quality of specialized translations.
Soft Skills: Time management and task organization: I learned how to
effectively allocate time to meet deadlines and rationally organize tasks. Interpersonal
communication: I honed my interpersonal communication abilities in a professional
work setting. Self-reflection: Adaptability and confidence: The internship helped me
adapt to new work environments and boost my confidence in my capabilities.
Responsibility: I learned to take responsibility for my work and ensure the completion
of assigned tasks. The lessons learned from the internship not only helped me develop
27
essential skills but also provided opportunities for deeper self-understanding and insight
into the work environment. These experiences will serve as a solid foundation for my
future career endeavors.

Encouraging activities like extensive reading of news articles, literature, or other
English texts, as well as participation in English clubs, language exchange programs,
international conferences, or competitions, could provide students with valuable
opportunities to apply their language skills in real-world contexts.
In essence, incorporating practical experiences into the Faculty of Culture,
Sports, and Tourism curriculum, forging industry collaborations, implementing
interactive teaching methods in the English Language Department, emphasizing writing
skills, and encouraging authentic language engagement could significantly enhance the
overall learning experience for students, better preparing them for successful future
endeavors.
