Abbreviations & extra explanation

sts = stitches
ch = chain stitch
slst = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
rnd = rounds
tog = together (eg. sc2tog = use single crochet to join 2 stitches together,
decrease)
[] …x = repeat the instructions in parentheses …(number)… times
(…) = the parentheses at the end of each round indicate the number of
stitches in that round.

Make sure you crochet tightly throughout the entire pattern, so you do not get stretch holes
between your stitches and the filling doesn’t come through your stitches after filling firmly.
This pattern is worked in spiral, unless indicated otherwise.

Take your time to pin all the parts in place, before sewing them into place. This way you can
make sure that the parts are in the correct position, which is important for a good end result.
All parts are crocheted in spiral, unless indicated otherwise.

06. [2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 2 sc] 6x (36)
07. [5 sc, 2 sc in next sc] 6x (42)
08. [3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 3 sc] 6x (48)
09-10. (2 rnd) 1 sc in each sc v (48)
11. skip first 15 sc’s, 33 sc (33)
12. 16 sc, sc2tog, 15 sc (32)
13. 13 sc, sc2tog, 3 sc, sc2tog, 12 sc (30)
14. [3 sc, sc2tog] 6x (24)
15. [1 sc, sc2tog, 1 sc] 6x (18)

Fasten off. Insert safety eyes between round 11 and 12, with 11 sts
in between.

Beak:
In orange:
01. 6 sc in magic loop, pull loop tight (6)
02. [1 sc, 2 sc in next sc] 3x (9)
03. 1 sc in each sc (9)
04. [1 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc] 3x (12)
05. 1 sc in each sc (12)

Fasten off orange yarn and continue in black:

06. [3 sc, 2 sc in next sc] 3x (15)
07. 1 sc in each sc(15)

Fasten off, leave a long tail to sew the beak to the head. Stuff the
beak and sew the opening of the beak to the opening of the head
(sew 5 sc of the beak to 6 sc of the head). Use the neck opening
to stuff the head firmly and place the rattle insert in the head.

Neck:
Attach white yarn to the 1st of the 15 free sc’s from round 11 of the head.
01. 1 sc in each sc (15)
02. 2 sc in next sc, 4 sc, sc2tog, 1 sc, sc2tog, 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc (15)
03-04. (2 rnd) 1 sc in each sc (15)
05. [2 sc in next sc] 2x, 4 sc, sc2tog, 1 sc, sc2tog, 4 sc (15)

Sew the opening closed that is formed between the neck and the head (at round 1 of the
neck). Stuff the neck while you continue crocheting. Don’t stuff too firmly, you should still be
able to bend the neck to shape a ring.

06-65. (60 rnd) 1 sc in each sc (15)

Fasten off, leave a long tail to sew in place. Pull the long side off the neck through the
wooden rings, bend the neck to form a ring and sew the end of the neck to round 12-16 of
the neck. (If you count your rounds from the top of the head, it’s row 22-26)

Wings: (make 2)
In white:
01. 6 sc in magic loop, pull loop tight
(6)
02. 2 sc in each sc (12)
03. [1 sc, 2 sc in next sc] 6x (18)
04. [1 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc] 6x (24)
05-08. (4 rnd) 1 sc in each sc (24)
09. 9 sc, [sc2tog] 2x, 9 sc, sc2tog (21)
10. 8 sc, [sc2tog] 2x, 7 sc, sc2tog (18)
11. 7 sc, [sc2tog] 2x, 5 sc, sc2tog (15)
12. 6 sc, [sc2tog] 2x, 3 sc, sc2tog (12)
13. sc2tog, 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 3 sc,
sc2tog (11)
14. sc2tog, 7 sc, sc2tog (9)
15. [sc2tog, 1 sc] 3x (6)

Sew the final 6 sts together and pull tight.

Fasten off. Sew the wings onto the ring.
