1. Introduce your name, relation to the student and the place/community you live
in?
My name is Louel Damiray, boyfriend of yours and I live in Brgy. Armado,
Occidental Mindoro.

2. For how many years are you living in the said community?
I live for 23 years, same with my age.
3. Would you compare the present vs past condition of your community?
In terms of agriculture, In the present condition agriculture in our
communities has undergone significant changes, influenced by technological
advancements, globalization, and evolving consumer preferences. Precision
farming, which utilizes technology like sensors and GPS, has enabled farmers to
optimize resource use and increase productivity. The use of genetically modified
crops and advanced irrigation systems has helped improve crop yields and
resilience to pests and drought. While in the past conditions, Farmers here relied
on traditional knowledge and manual labor, using limited mechanization and
basic tools for cultivation.
In terms of Environment, In the present condition access to clean water in
our communities was often limited, and unsafe water sources such as open
wells, ponds, or rivers, which were susceptible to contamination from pollutants.
Improper waste disposal practices, such as open dumping or burning, were
common here. The lack of designated waste collection services and recycling
facilities led to uncontrolled accumulation of waste, contributing to environmental
degradation, health hazards, and contamination of soil and water sources. Unlike
in the past, the conditions of the environment here in Brgy. Armado has many
accesses to clean water especially in rivers, wells and ponds because they
preserved it.
4. Please enumerate (atleast 3) specific pollutions you have seen in your
community?
- Noise Pollution
- Soil Pollution
- Water Pollution
5. Are the people in your community doing actions/solutions to combat/reduce/avoid
these pollutions? If yes, please identify these actions.
Yes, and I am one of them, the solutions we made to reduce soil pollution
is every Saturday we did general cleaning in our barangay. We have plastic
recycling bins and replacing accumulated plastics with rice to support the
community’s agricultural sector.
6. What are your personal contributions to help reduce this pollution?
As I’ve mentioned earlier, Since I am SK Chairman of our barangay, I
always take the lead when it comes to our barangay project. General cleaning
every Saturday to minimize soil and wastewater pollution, replacing accumulated
plastics with rice, and recycling plastics. As an individual, I always try to refill my
bottle to minimize using single-use plastic.
7. Are you aware of noise pollution? If yes, kindly discuss briefly.
Yes, I’m aware of noise pollution, it refers to the excessive or disruptive
sound that impairs the natural balance of an environment. In our barangay, as
farmers work tirelessly to cultivate the land and tend to their livestock, the use of
machinery, such as tractors, harvesters, and irrigation systems, generates
significant noise levels that disrupt the peaceful countryside.
8. Given the current state of our community, what do you see when you look into
the future of our community's environment?
In the current state of Occidental Mindoro, I can see in this future that
renewable energy will play a vital role, with increased adoption of solar, wind, and
hydropower technologies. Especially here in Occ. Mindoro it’s always brownout
here. Moreover, environmental education will be at the forefront of this vision for
the future. The community will prioritize raising awareness and instilling a sense
of environmental stewardship from an early age. Schools, universities, and
community organizations will collaborate to develop comprehensive
environmental curricula, fostering a generation of informed and environmentally
conscious citizens.
9. Final words to encourage the youth in taking actions for our environment.
To the youth, the torchbearers of tomorrow's world, I urge you to rise and
take action for our environment. Your passion, energy, and determination can be
the driving force behind meaningful change. The challenges we face, from
climate change to pollution, require innovative solutions and a united front.
Embrace your power as changemakers and advocates. Educate yourselves
about the issues at hand, understand the interconnectedness of environmental
problems, and empower others with knowledge. Use your voices to raise
awareness, spark conversations, and mobilize communities. From organizing
local clean-up drives to participating in global climate strikes, every action counts.
