Social Media - a story since 1994…

Whereas in the beginning, Social Media was mainly used for sharing holiday photos with friends and
family, the usage has developed and increased significantly over the past years.

Social Media is used as general term to describe different types of online platforms that allows direct
and open communication between users.

One type of Social Media are Professional Online Networking Platforms, as for example Linkedin.
The presence of both business accounts and users on Social Media has further changed the way
companies interact with their customers. It is estimated that close to 100 percent of larger companies
(both B2C and B2B) are using some sort of Social Media platforms.

The use of professional online networking platforms, such as LinkedIn, is gaining relevance for

people (as an employee as well as on a private level) to engage with industry peers,

customers and partners - building relationships.


Different stakeholders have different needs.

can be retrieved by anyone at anytime.

Giving a speech in front of an audience, may make you feel nervous.


You prepare yourself well and plan what you want to say. You think about your audience
that you know to a certain extent.
Step 2

Making a Post on Social Media...

Sharing a post on Social Media, seems less obvious.


It may reach up to 100,000 people within a hour of time.
You do not know your audience.
Think about the golden rule…

Follow the Do’s and Don’t’s when posting on Linkedin..

Act responsibly and ethically correct, respecting your


audience and Omya’s values at all times

Do not post names of customers, partners, principals

Do not post intellectual property information of Omya


(including photos of our plants and quarries)

Do not post internal documents

Do not discuss on a specific business opportunity or


project.

Comment on News posts in English or even local


language to reach local readers.
Stay brief and take the discussion to offline
channels (email, phone etc.). Inform and involve the
regional Segment Market Development & Innovation
Manager (MDI) without delay

Inform Group Sales & Marketing and Corporate


Communications team immediately, when finding
negative comments about Omya

Do not spread or reply to negative comments about


Omya

Respect the Corporate Policy 4 (Code of Conduct) and


13 (Communication with the public and the media)

Remember you are an Omya brand ambassador.

How to deal with negative Comments

How to act when observing a negative comment about Omya

Bring it to the attention of the respective Group or Showcase Owner where the original
post has been made

If the comment is made on a post that is made by a third party of Omya, inform
Corporate Communications immediately

Do not respond to negative comments without approval of Corporate Communications,


the Channel Owner and respective internal stakeholders

Do not delete the news post or comment. The community wants to see how the
company is handling them. Being responsive and responsible will help to build a
supportive community of followers who will stand by the company when needed.
