CHESS
I. OBJECTIVES
1. To practice a brain training activity among students of T.I.P., which can be done in an entertaining and
socially engaging manner.
2. To officially promote the sport among students, being one of the most played board games among CEA
students inside the T.I.P. premises.
3. To observe sportsmanship and sense of representation in an individual versus sport, among CEA students.
a. The player is not present in the venue and his/her official clock time is down.
b. His/her action/s prevent the game from being played; or
c. He/she refuses to play after being instructed to do so by the committee with the
concurrence of the tournament head committee.
2. If the both player will not arrive on time they have 30 minutes defaulting time. And if the one player is
arrive he/she decide if the game is start or he/she give the opponent an extra 30 minutes defaulting time.
3. By flipping a coin, it will be decided which of the players will have the white and the black pieces.

V. COMPETITION RULES
1. The tournament shall be governed by the FIDE Laws of Chess promulgated on January 1, 2023,
particularly the Laws on Blitz and Rapid Chess.
2. The rate of play shall be TWEENTY-FIVE (25) MINUTES with 5 SECONDS increment for each player
to make all the moves necessary to finish the game using the digital clocks.
3. Recording of moves is optional.
4. All mobile phones/cellphones and other means of electronic communication must be shut off before the
start of each round.
5. Team Player/Coaches, including delegation heads must abstain from intervention during play. Any
communication between them and their players must be done under the control of the tournament
arbiter(s).
6. The following situations shall be treated as illegal moves (MAJOR OFFENSE) when completed and
shall result to immediate loss of the game by the erring player upon the claim of his opponent or when
observed by the arbiter:
a. Wrong movement of a piece
b. Exposing the king to an attack or leaving the king under attack
c. Capturing the opponent’s king
d. In pawn promotion, stopping the clock without exchanging the pawn for a piece
7. The following situations shall be treated as illegal moves (MINOR OFFENSE) when completed and shall
result to oral warning on the first offense, then immediate loss of the game by the erring player upon the
claim of his opponent or when observed by the arbiter:
a. Displacement of piece(s), intentional or unintentional
b. Use of two hands in making a move
c. Using a piece in pressing the clock
8. A game is drawn:
a. Stalemate
b. Agreement of the 2 Players
c. Three Fold Repetition
d. Fifty move rule
e. If a player has insufficient mating material (lone K, only K+B, or only K+N) and the opponent
runs out of time
VI. TIE-BREAKS
1. Armageddon System.
