The PMMA Corps of Midshipmen lends a hand to support DENR-EMB tree planting activities.

San Antonio, Zambales The Philippine Merchant Marine Academy corps of midshipmen took
part in the tree planting activity of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-
Environmental Management Beauru (DENR-EMB) in cooperation with DENR-CENRO on May
12, 2023.

Assistant Superintendent for Academic, Training, Research, and Extension (ATRE), Professor
Ronald D. Barro, PMMA Battalion Mast, Engr Francis T. Pagtolon-an, and PMMA Sports
Director, Engr Mark Anthony B. Omagtang, humbly abetted the presence of Engr Esperanza A.
Sajul, the OIC Assistant Director of EMB Central Office, and their employees as part of their
company team building for their tree planting activity that held inside the academy`s perimeter.

Tree planting must be done in a way that is sustainable and avoids negative impacts on local
communities and ecosystems and t is important to choose appropriate species that are adapted to
the local environment and to ensure that trees are planted in areas where they will have the most
benefit and least harm.

"Pagtugon sa Climate Change ay Mapa-igting" is the main purpose of this activity, as per Mr.
Joel Dellosa, the DENR-CENRO representative, who also exerts effort to help plant narra
seedlings.

Overall, the corps of midshipmen and present tactical officers gladly helped and assisted the tree
planting activity.
