ARRANGED ME!

As you can see, on the blackboard we

have words. Can you please read what

● Body
● Header
● Inside address

Now, what you’re going to do is to arrange

these words chronologically or in order. I will

select 8 students to arrange these words.
Understood?

b. Presentation of the lesson

I think it’s something to do with a letter,
Based on our activity for today, what do you Ma’am. There are words like: Salutation,
think is our next lesson for today? Any ideas? Date, Signature, Complimentary close, etc.

Those words are associated in making a

letter, Ma’am.

Okay, let’s try to figure that out later on as we

go on discussing our lesson for today.

After graduating in senior high school or

college, the next crucial thing one will do is to
look for a job. Right?

Along with this challenging task is to comply

with the basic yet important requirements
every company will ask like a resume and
application letter.
Yes, Ma’am!

Have you seen an application letter? Not yet ma’am!

Application letter, also known as, cover letter,

could be the most important aspect of your
job search. It goes with your resume, but not
a duplicate of it.

It is a document that you send to potential

employers to secure a position or get an
invitation to an interview.

According to Kagan 2020, a cover letter or an

application letter is a written document
commonly submitted with a job application
outlining the applicant's credentials and
interest in the open position.

A letter of application, also known as a cover

letter, is a document sent with your resume to

provide additional information on your skills
and experience. It provides detailed
information on why you are qualified for the
job you are applying for. (Custodio, et. al
2013)
It is to improve your chances of being
called for an interview, by convincing the

letter is for the prospective employer to read
your resume, just as the purpose of the
resume is for you to be called for an
interview.

In creating an application letter, you must also

know the parts and format of a cover letter
for you to create your own application letter.

Let’s go back to your activity a while back and

let see if your answers are correct. The words
that you arranged are also the parts of an
application letter.

First is we have the header. The

information, the date you are writing, and the

Is your answer correct in our activity?
[Sender’s printed name]

Very good class!. I’m so glad that you know

the parts of an application letter. Also, we
need to know the content of an application
letter. First, the opening paragraph that
expresses your interest in the position, tells
how you learn about the opening of the
position, and indicates the reason for applying
for the position.

Example:
MARIANO MARCOS STATE UNIVERSITY

Your advertisement in section C5 of the

Philippine Daily Inquirer for a computer
technician interests me very much. I believe
that my ICT skills will
qualify me for the position.

I am interested in the Sales Representative

position you advertised at Manila Bulletin
last July 5, 2020. Considering the
qualifications indicated in my resume, I am
confident that I am best suited for the
position since I am a Marketing
Management graduate.

Next, the middle paragraph that indicates

your skills and experiences that made you
qualify for the position. Mention qualifications
and services you can offer to the company.
Provide some details of information
mentioned in your resume, especially those
that are related to the job you are applying
for. It is also important to mention some
details about the company incorporating its
mission and vision, and products and services;
it shows that you made research before
applying.

Example:
Your Ad stated that your company is looking

for someone with experience in general

office skills. I have been involved in this line
of work for many years through volunteers
and paid positions that honed my skills in
typing, budgeting, filing, answering phone
calls and correspondence,
greeting customers, and running standard
office equipment. In addition, I am proficient
in Microsoft office suite and am completely
comfortable with new technologies.

I am a Mass Communication graduate major

in broadcasting from the University of the
Philippines, Diliman. My two years of
experience in call centers make me confident
in applying for the vacant position in your
company. I have handled both the in-bound
and the out-bound transactions and am very
comfortable with the graveyard shift.
(Custodio E.S. et al 2013)

Lastly, the final paragraph that closes your

letter and summarizes your interest that
suggests the prospective employer will call
you for an interview. It should sound
optimistic and appreciative. Be sure to give
your correct contact number or email address
for him/her to reach you.

Example:

with you further the support I can contribute
to the company through an interview. You

one paper and read.

Who else wants to try it?
What should we emphasize?
● Emphasize your name; email address
must be professional-looking.
What else? Anyone?
What should we avoid?

may appear self-centered.
