A. Give 5 examples of ICT and give a brief description for each.

1. A computer mouse is a small input device that allows the user to interact with the computer
by moving the mouse itself, rolling its scroll wheel, or simply pressing one of its two buttons.
2. A computer keyboard is a peripheral input device that has an array of buttons or keys with
engraved or printed characters. These are pressed to allow the user to enter letters, numbers,
symbols, and commands on the computer.
3. Telephones are instruments used for telecommunication purposes. It allows two or more
people to have a conversation with one another when they’re too far apart. It was first invented
by Alexander Graham Bell.
4. The World Wide Web is a collection of different websites and web resources found on the
Internet; it interconnects these through the use of hyperlinks. It was invented by Tim Berners-
Lee.
5. An Operating System (OS) is system software that controls the flow of instructions and data
to and from the processor and manages computer hardware and software resources. It manages
functions such as allocating memory, scheduling tasks, and handling communication with
peripherals.

B. Among the three (3) main types of ICT systems, choose one (1), give 5 examples and describe
each.
Information Systems
1. A Search Engine is application software that is normally embedded in your browser or other
applications. It is designed to look for web pages or websites that match the web search query
that the user typed on its search box.

2. Enterprise Systems (ES) are large-scale software packages that manage and govern business
processes, reporting, data flows, data analytics, and all of a company's or organization's other
complicated operations.
3. A Data Warehouse (DW or DWH) is a central repository that houses integrated data from
one or more disparate sources and is owned by a business or organization. It is regarded as an
important part of business intelligence.

4. Decision Support Systems (DSSs) are information systems that support aid in the decision-
making process in businesses and organizations. They sift through and analyze huge amounts
of data in order to compile complete data that may be used to resolve problems.

5. A Management Information System (MIS) is a decision-making information system that


can also be used in an organization for data analysis, control, coordination, marketing, and
visualization of information.
