Detailed Lesson Plan

Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

1. define "relation" and "function";
2. summarize the representations of functions and relations;
3. demonstrate the three representations of functions and relations; and
4. appraise the application of functions in real life.

Teacher's Activity Student's Activity

A. Preparation
Good morning Class!! Good morning Sir

Okay class, before we start our lesson for

today, let us ask the guidance of almighty (Students will lead the prayer)
God and let us enlighten our mind to
completely understand the lesson this
morning. Would you please lead the prayer?

But Class, before we start our lesson, I would

like to requests everyone to arrange your (Students will arrange their chairs and will pick up the
chairs properly and ake sure there is no trashes)
trashes around you.
B. Review
Okay, Let me ask you first about your last (The whole class will participate and answers, it is
topic during your junior High School? about the Permutation.

Then, what is permutation? The Permutation - a permutation is a calculation of the

number of ways a particular set can arrange, where the
order of the arrangement matters.

Very good. Thank you

C. Motivation
I will show you bunch of photos and let you
distinguish what are these photos all about. (The whole class will participate to distignuish the sets
As I show each photos, you may answer the of photos as shown)
appropriate word about it.

(Class, look carefully to the screen what was A set of car brands and a country flags.
the photos related all about and tell what are
these)

What are the relation of car brands and a

country flags and how they arte related? What
is the importance of a relatino and function?
Now I introduce you our lesson on function
and relations
D. Instruction
Now, I will you show the definition of function
and relation using Online Presentation
(Canva) and I read it first, then I will ask
anyone afterwards to reads each definition.

What is a relation?

 A relation is a set of ordered pairs or

a bunch of points.

 In other words, the relation between

the two sets is defined as the
collection of the ordered pair, in which
the ordered pair is formed by the
object from each set.

Who among you want to read the definition of (Students raise their hands and read the definition of
function and relation? relation)

 A relation is a set of ordered pairs or a bunch of

points.

 In other words, the relation between the two

sets is defined as the collection of the ordered
pair, in which the ordered pair is formed by the
object from each set.

Okey very good!!

Now let me discuss to you the set of ordered

pairs for relation.

This mapping depicts a relation from set A into

Set B. A relation from Set A to Set B is a
subset of A x B. The ordered pairs are (I,4),
(L,5), (O,6), (V,8), (E,3), (M,6), (A,2), (T,8),
(H,4).

For defining a relation, we use the notation

where,

set {I,L,O,V,E,M,A,T,H} represents the domain

(x values).

set {2,3,4,5,6,8} represents the range (y

values).

Note that for each letter corresponds exactly

one number. This is a special kind of a
function.

Now, what is function? (Students raise their hands and read the definition of
function)
 A function is a relation or rule in
which, for each value of the first  A function is a relation or rule in which, for each
component of ordered pairs, there is value of the first component of ordered pairs,
exactly one value of the second there is exactly one value of the second
component. component.

 The first component of the ordered  The first component of the ordered pairs called
pairs called domain and the second domain and the second component of the
component of the ordered pairs called ordered pairs called range.
range.

Very good. Thank you.

For this, let’s go on. Now let me discuss to

you the set of ordered pairs for function.
Set of ordered pairs
(I,4), (L,5), (O,6), (V,8), (E,3), (M,6), (A,2),
(T,8), (H,4)}

Domain - It is a collection of the first values in

the ordered pairs (Set of all input (x) values).
set {I,L,O,V,E,M,A,T,H}

Range - It is a collection of the second values

in orderes pairs (Set of all output (y) values).
set {2,3,4,5,6,8}

Note:
Do not duplicates when writing domain and
range.
Students will tell that they understand the topic.
Write it also in increasing order
(Yes sir)
Do you understand?

Okay, let’s contiune. And we will discuss the

representation of function and relations.

There are three (3) representations of

relations.
1. Mapping diagram
2. Table of values
3. Graph

Again, let’s proceed,

I will show you the representation of functions.

There are three (3) representations of

functions.
1. Mapping diagram
2. Table of values
3. Graph
(A student volunteer will read the the definitions of a
functions)

1. Mapping Diagrams - Mapping Diagrams are best for

discrete functions with a domain and range with less
than ten elements. Mapping diagrams are commonly
used in computer programming to display the behavior
of a function.

2. Table of values - A function is represented using a

table of values or chart. Tables are best for displaying
Class who among you may read the discrete functions with unrelated input values.
representations of a fucntions as shown on
the screen? 3. Graph or visual - It was the basic representation of
functions. This way of representation is very easy to
(Student will read the sentence provided at understand. The input values are marked along x-axis.
screen / ppt) For any input value, the corresponding output value is
the vertical displacement from the x-axis.

Thank you very much.

E. Generalization
Now, for your own understanding, Based on (Students answers)
what we have discuss what have you learned
about the application of functions in real life? We learned about functions and relations.

Functions are very important in so many ways because

it can be applied in many different scenarios. Some
applications of functions include can predict expected
tree growth, can determine how far someone travels
after a certain amount of time, can determine how much
money to expect from businesses and more.

Functions that are equations are applied to find the

exact value of the output based on the input. Functions
that are graphed are used to get an overall view of the
input and output data and functions that are in table are
used when a specific input are important.

F. Application
Class!! for your information, aside from
ordered pairs, a relation can also be
represented in three (3) different ways.
These relations as written in ordered pairs
{(1,1), (2,3), (3,6), (4,7), (5,8), (6,9)}, as i
discussed earlier, your first element is your x
values or domain, 2nd element is your y
values or range.

Can anyone from the group can demonstrate (Three student will demonstrate the representations of
the representations of functions and relations. relations such as Mapping diagram. Table of values and
Graph)

A round of applause to all of you. For that an

on our activity today.
G. Evaluation
Class!! before we end up our lesson today,
kindly bring out your cellphones and ipads for
your game/activity today. We will be
answering several questions using
KAHOOT!!. We will use your cellphones and
Ipads to scan the QR code or input the
pincode provided to automatically redirect to
the game/activity today.

But to those who haven’t a cellphones / ipads (Students bring out their Cellular phones and Ipads to
with them today, you may still be part of this scan the QR code and / or input the pincode provided)
activity by using use papel and pen to show
your answers. To those students have a cellphones and redirected to

Congratulations class!! Students answers.

A job well done (Thank you sir)

All your answer will be check and to be

recorded.

Thank you very much. Welcome sir.
