Iggy
GENERAL INFORMATION
All patterns have 6mm seam allowance
Seams can be overlocked, or if no
overlocker is present, then sew the pieces
together using a straight stitch (6mm away
from the edge); then zig zag stitch as close
to the straight stitch seam as possible. then
trim the excess fabric.

All patterns can be printed onto A4 paper.

Ensure to click ‘no scaling’ when printing
and preferably borderless. If you have to
have a scale choose 100%
Where you have the patterns on two
separate pages, there will be a slight gap,
they have been positioned so no important
info has been lost and you just need to
draw in the line.

DESCRIPTION
This brief is low slung with narrow sides.

GENERAL INFORMATION
All patterns are imposed in half, printed
with the ‘FOLD’ down the side. This should
be placed on the edge of your folded
fabric to create each piece.

When attaching elastic, set your

machine to zig zag. Ensure to do a test
run on a bit of scrap fabric before you
begin to sew, as a starting point I set my
machine to:

Stitch width: 2.5mm Stitch length: 2.5mm

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
ELASTIC
MEASUREMENTS 1m - 1.2m

FABRIC
Brief in all same fabric (including gusset):
To get the right pattern size follow this guide
30cm x 1m

X/S: Waist 25.5"-27" - Hips 35.5"-37"

Brief front and back different
S: Waist 27"-29" - Hips 37"-39
Front: 50cm x 30cm
M: Waist 29"-31" - Hips 39"-41.5"
Back: 55cmx 30cm
L: Waist 31"-33" - Hips 41.5"-43.5"
Gusset 11cm x 15cm
XL: Waist 33"-35.5" - Hips 43.5"-46"
XXL: Waist - 35.5"-37.5" - Hips 46"-48"
So if you were to buy 1m of fabric and plan to
make your brief out of the same fabric,
If you are in one size for your waist and another
depending on the width you will get 3-5 pairs.
for your hips, then go with the size you usually
take, for example if you measure 33" waist and
40" hips but
usually take a size M then go for a size M.
MEASUREMENTS
Sewing the elastics
On the next page is measurements that
the brief needs to be finished by. 6cm
You can either

1_CUT ELASTIC Add 1cm to the

measurement, so say if the waist states
36cm you would cut 37cm. Over lap the
ends by 0.5cm and pin at the side seams,
then fold the elastics in half and pin where
the brief folds in half. If you need to pin
more then fold the elastic in half again
and fold the brief in half and pin.

2_ELASTIC If you find cutting the elastics

too fiddly, measure the elastic, add 1cm
and instead of cutting put a pin in place so
you are not dealing with trying to hold onto
the tiny end of the elastic. And like above
pin the elastics along the brief at the side
seam and at the half way point.

3_ELASTIC If you don’t like working with 0.5cm

pins then you need to sew by holding and
stretching the elastics consistently. This
can be done by measuring and drawing a
dash on your sewing machine. Measure
6cm from the needle along the sewing
bed, then mark another 0.5cm along, and
from the first mark you hold the elastic and Pattern
pull to the second mark for consistent iggy
tension along the elastics.
FINISHED
MEASUREMENTS Pattern
SEWING MEASUREMENTS iggy
Even the professionals don’t always hit
the right measurements. When they sew
they have a tolerance in which they have
to hit, which means that the finished
measurement falls within a 1cm of the
final measurement. So for example the
medium states 30cm if you finished at
31cm (or 29cm) that’s okay.

CONSTRUCTION

1 CUT OUT

1
Fold the fabric to fit all the patterns on. Or if
you prefer to cut on the flat, print out two of
the patterns and sellotape them together.
Lay the back pattern down the fold and the
cups following the stretch recommendations.
Trace around the pattern (weigh them down
if needed).and cut or use a rotary wheel to
cut the patterns directly from the fabric.

Please see hidden gusset sewing page.

3 SIDE SEAMS
Place the right sides of the fabrics 3
together and sew the side seams together
with your chosen stitch.
4 LEG ELASTICS
Choose the method you want to sew
your elastic attachment.

Lay the elastics on the right side of the

fabric with the picot edge facing towards
the brief, and if you are using brushed
back elastic , ensure that the brushed side
is facing towards you.

5 ATTACH LEG ELASTICS

With the zig-zag stitch sew near the fancy 5
edge of the elastic
6
REPEAT STEP 4 & 5
Repeat the steps to attach the other
leg elastic

7 ATTACH WAIST ELASTICS

As in step four you will attach the
7
elastics in the same way.

Lay the elastics on the right side of the

fabric with the picot edge facing towards
the brief, and if you are using brushed

9
back elastic , ensure that the brushed
side is facing towards you.

8 ATTACH WAIST ELASTICS

Choose your method for the elastic
attachment so if that is cutting and
pinning do that, if you are not cutting or
pinning then measure out the elastics
and plus 1cm and place a pin there.
When ready zig zag attach the elastic
around the leg.
You will be sewing near the fancy edge
of the elastic

TURN ALL ELASTICS

9 Turn all the attached elastic, back on

itself underneath, so that on the right side
you only see the decorative edge of the
elastic. Secure with zig-zag stitch.
