My village: Coín

COÍN
We live a village in
the province
Málaga, in the
South of Spain. Its
name is Coín.
It has a population
of 20870 residents.
Main monuments
 Alameda
 Plaza la Villa (La Villa Square)
 Torre de los Trinitarios (Trinitarios Tower)
 Ayuntamiento (The Townhall)

ALAMEDA

 Itis a long square and is has


several palm trees. It has a
park for children and next to it
there is an open stage for
public performances.
PLAZA LA VILLA
 ItIs a square
square, in the
centre it has a
monument a
women and a man,
and in the square
there are some
council offices.
TORRE DE LOS TRINITARIOS
 The construction of the
Tower of the Trinitarians it
was initiated in the 17th
century and it was finished
in the 18th century. It has
triangular form. It is the only
one of the province of
Malaga and only three
remain in Andalusia with
this characteristic.
AYUNTAMIENTO
 Itis a public
building and for
the mayor and his
team. In the main
balcony, he makes
announcements.
IGLESIA SAN JUAN
 Itis a church , it
has three doors ,
this is very
popular.
SAN SEBASTIÁN
 Itis other
church, next to
our high school
and the priest
gives class of
religion in our
school.
CONVENTO DE SANTA MARÍA
• In the past it had
a convent, school,
and church, but
now there is an
exhibition of
craftswork,
paintings…
The surroundings

 It is a famous
place because
it is very
beautiful, and
the people
swim in the
river and
plunge in the
cascade. It is
very funny.
HERMITAGE OF OUR LADY OF
THE FUENSANTA
The hermitage is
in the region of
Pereila on a cliff.
The first
hermitage was
built in the year
1529 but the
current one was
built in the year
1680. The
Church had
several reforms in
the 18th century.
CELEBRATIONS
InCoín there are many celebrations to
dance, sing, drink, eat food typical
Spanish.
For example: New Year Eve, Week
Saint, Party of Orange…
NEW YEAR’S EVE
 It’s the last day in the year.
We get dressed with fancy
dresses and we paint our
faces. We go to the “Square
of The Fish” around eleven
o’clock. At twelve o’clock,
we eat twelve grapes,
which is supposed to bring
good luck and drink cava.
It’s fantastic. After that, we
pay for a party to dance,
sing, laugh, eat… Around
five or half past five, we go
to a café and we eat a
typical Spanish food for
breakfast: “churros” and
drink hot chocolate.
THE HOLY WEEK

During these days, in Coín the images of diferent
churches go out in procession .
PARTY OF THE ORANGE
 The compilation of the crop
of the oranges begins in
October and it concludes in
May, with The Party of the
Orange, which
commemorates the ending
of the crops in the
countryside.
 The celebration of this
party, declared of Tourist
Provincial Singularity.
ROMERIA (Pilgrimage to the
hermitage)
 The transfer of “The Virgin
Our Lady of the Fuensanta”
from “The Church of San
Juan” to her hermitage is on
May 1, during the spring
fair. On the first Saturday of
June the pilgrims go out
towards the hermitage,
where a mass is celebrated
in honor of the Virgin.
Singing and dancing takes
place and then people
return to “The Church of
San Juan” on Sunday
evening.
FAIR OF SPRING
 Incoin there are two fairs:
the fair of spring and that of
August.
 Fair of spring:It begins at
the end of April and the first
days of May. It is an
honoring to the fertility of
the lands of Coin.
FAIR OF AUGUST
 Itis celebrated between the
9th and 15th of August.
 For three days in
square”Alameda” of coin
celebrates the fair by day.
There there is an orchestra
in the stall and there we
eat, dance and sing.
 At night, there are different
attractions.
GOING OUT
In coin we have a mall where we can go
shopping, go to the cinema, to the arcade
and go to the gym.
It is a small mall that has been opened
for 4 years.
Its name is “La Trocha”.

very nice and very
funny!
