PROBLEMS FACED BY NON RESIDENTS STUDENTS IN UITM SHAH ALAM

1.0 BACKGROUND INFORMATION


According to NR Management Unit (2010), students who live outside the campus are known as the non-residents (NR) students. According to Admin nr (2010), non residents students whose living off campus can have the enjoyment and interesting time but at the same time the responsibility as a housemate, neighbor, tenant, and the residents member should be considered and they should be acquainted with their own rights. The NR students should know how to communicate with each other and make a good neighborhood. By living off campus, the NR students will have the chance to lead a life independently and can obtain many new benefits, but there are also some problems that might encounter.

2.0 Problem statement


As the number of students increases, the facilities provided, especially the residential colleges are not enough to be given to each of the university students.

So, for those who stayed outside the campus or commonly known as non-residential students might facing many problems by staying outside as they really need to be independence and knowing how to manage their financials and their precious time wisely.

3.0 OBJECTIVES
1) To find out how much they spend monthly.
2) To state the safety issues concerning the students living outside the campus. 3) To find out whether the NR students have proper time management.

5.0 FINDINGS
Profile Respondent

The survey showed that 86.7 % of the students were female while the rest were male. Besides that, most of them were in the average 20 years old and from the faculty of Chemical Engineering in UITM Shah Alam.

BUDGET MANAGEMENT AMONG NR STUDENTS

The Financial Problems Faced by Students

Conclusion 1 : It can be concluded that most of the students had been faced a financial problems due to they might have spend their money over the limits. They may also spend their money on other non-benefits things such as to go for shopping or watching a movie.

Recommendations 1 : It is suggested that the students need to organize their financial wisely. They should not spend their money in terms of other nonbenefits things. They also should save some of their money for their future or in the case of emergency later.

The Utilities Bills Management by Students

Conclusion 2 : It can be concluded that most of the students manage their utilities bills separately. By paying separately the utilities bills, it will ease the owner to collect the rental but at the same time it is not convenient for the students as they have to pay the utilities bills on their own.

Recommendations 2: It is recommended that the owner of the house to collect the monthly rent that included the utilities bills as well since it is not convenient for the students to pay the utilities bills separately. This is to make sure the students will manage their budget on how much they need to spend exactly for every month. By doing this they can prevent themselves from being over limit in using money.

Conclusion 3 : It can be concluded that many of the students are more prefer staying together with more than 5 people in the rent house because it can save their budget and cost.

Conclusion 4 : It can be concluded that most of them are more comfortable to go home with their housemate because it is more easier as they are living in the same house.

Recommendations 3 :It is also suggested that the government should provide more policemen to patrol the house area. Besides that, the authorities should take an initiative to improve more the security around the house area such as use a shift to patrol the house area. Recommendations 4 : It is recommended that the students should spend their time together with the neighbor such as doing some activities together and greet each other once they meet. By that it can build a good relationship among the neighbors and they will get to know each other well.

Conclusion 5 : It can be concluded that the most of the students studies in two hours every day. This is because they have the problem as when they stay out of the campus, the surrounding is not convenience for them to stay for a long time for study.

Recommendations 5 : It is recommended that the management of UiTM Shah Alam should provide more place in the college to the students so student no need to worry to rent house outside the campus. They also can spend more time to focus on their study.

Conclusion 6 : From the survey, it can be concluded that majority of the students is enjoy shopping during their leisure time. This is because their house is located near the commercial centre area. So that, they are easy to go there to release tension or to communicate with the other peoples.

Recommendations 6 :It is recommended that the students stay off campus, they must know how to manage their time and their landlords responsibilities and also take care of their housemate feelings. University of Bath(2007), human must interact with each other in society to create a harmony relationship in life.
