14.562 (2011). It was first mentioned in the 15th century when it was named "Bodeti" and was a property of an important family of Boyars named "Buhu".
The town is made up of three communes: Buhui, Marginea and Runcu with approximately 18.500 inhabitants in 2002. Buhui developed constantly due to the development of the clothing factory which had been set up in 1885. The positive trend continued after 1989, the population reaching 21.621 people in 1992.
Buhui Clothing Factory
In 1885, the Clothing Factory was founded by colonel Eugen Alcaz, who took over the former factory in Trgu Neamt, which had belonged to the well-known patriot si political authority, Mihail Kogalniceanu. In 1891, the factory was taken over by the Wolf company, and, in 1895, it was turned into an anonymous shareholding company. In the following years, the factory started to make a profit and won the golden medal for the best fabrics exhibited in Paris, in 1890. Postcard The Synagogue from Buhui In the middle of the19th century, Isac Fridman, the Buhui rabbi, founded a rabbinical court by building a house and a synagogue that still stands today, and remains one of the oldest, a hundred and forty seven years having passed since its construction. Orbic Inn The inn from Gura Orbicului, a former manor of Buhu family, is situated in Buhusi and used to be an important commercial link on the Valley of Bistria. It was built of local stone and later fortified. The inn represents a historical monument of genuine secular architecture. Buhu Manor The manor of Buhu family is a neoclassical building, dating back to 1800s, which served as a residence of the boyar family. The building was officially changed into a Museum of Art. The Zoo The town used to have a zoo, which was closed in 2007, due to a lack of funds.
