Second Thoughts

THE PITCH

Concept.

Young boy is being pressured to commit murder and his

life has been mentally scarred until to the point where
he can not handle it and decides to take his own life
away.

We want to portray the sense of thriller and the feeling

of uncertainty by depending on the enigma codes, this
will be shown in the very beginning by using low key
lighting at the same time highlighting the hard colours
red. Also we wanted to bring an urban feeling to it
because we know that people are suffering in silence
when being peer pressured into gangs.

Narrative

This film is about a boy who makes the wrong decision in

his life my committing a murder and getting away with
it. The gang members in the local area give him praise
for doing the wrong thing but deep down he knows that
he wasnt entirely cut out for this type of lifestyle.
However the impact of the death plays tricks with his
mind which gives him mental problems throughout until
it gets to the point where is about commit suicide, but
someone comes and tries to convince him not to take his
own life away.

Inspiration

Kidulthood - This is a big inspiration when it comes to making our opening

sequence. This is because of the urban element that is relatable to people who
live in areas where poverty, gang violence and drugs dominate their society.
These issues are what people in Hackney may face on a daily bases. The point of
this is to contribute to raising awareness to other races and classes to let them
know what kind of lifestyle they could be living.

Se7en This is also a big influence in our work when it comes to making our opening
sequence. This is because of the enigma codes that are created. Our work will help
balance the enigma code and action codes to give that balance to let the audience
know that they are seeing a mix of genre which is an urban thriller.

Key Characters

Main This is the character who will lead the story along and show us the lifestyle that they may
face in which will probably be played by either Steohen or CJay. This is because we are able to
show the role properly of a person who lives in Hackney and who is affiliated with gang violence.
Also we can face the stereotypes properly.

The local gang- This would be played by many boys that live in the local area, most likely to be a
group of 5-8 people, these are the people who make conflict in the area and influence the gang
life. They help represent the other gangs in areas who may be pressuring people.

The Life Changer - This role is most probably going to be played by a female character, this is
because they have a big impact on boys life and it can show the influence they have on the
character.

Mise-en-scene

We are trying to create the urban feeling of Hackney so

the main stereotypes that boys face is wearing
tracksuits, hoodies, trainers, and having harsh cockney
accents.

Lighting There will be a mixture of high key and low

key lighting. This is because we want to show the
progression of how the character feels in both daytime
and night.

This will be set in an urban area.

Music & Sound

Music will play a massive part in our opening sequence.

This so because it will help influence the feeling of gang
violence and having mental thoughts that people can
relate to. One music group that will influence the gang
mentality feeling is 67. This is because their music
predominantly talks about drugs sex and money. But at
the same time we want to break those conventions of
the stereotypes of urban films by adding some sad
sounding music which helps reflect the mood

Sound is necessary in our opening sequence. We only

need a few gunshots at the very beginning of the
sequence. This will help build the enigma code and
action codes at the same time

Visual Styles

As much as we want to continue the urban

feeling, we may break the convention a bit
because instead of having a graffiti looking title,
we may just have it in a plain bold font using a
black background and white writing. The effect of
this is that it will replicate how the main character
sees society and the way he thinks, which also
gives off the feeling of instability. This is because
we want to create a serious tone. Compared to
using graffiti font, this will throw off the feeling
that we want to create.
