THE WOUNDED DEER

Painting By Frida Kahlo

PowerPoint by Ethan brown
MEDIA
"The wounded Deer" was a painting made in 1946 with oil paint.
DESCRIPTION
In this painting there is a deer that has been shot by
arrows, that is why the painting is called "the wounded
deer". This title guided the artist to make the deer look
wounded and with making these effects make the
painting Technically successful by using all the elements
of art. Also the arrows are represented using line, shape
and texture. Shape is used because the arrow feathers
created an organic shape. Texture is applied because
the artist made the object look a certain way to reflect
the actual texture of the object. This deer also has the of
face Frida Kahlo painted on it . In the middle ground
there is a forest of trees with broken limbs and in the
background there is an ocean with a storm forming.
ANALYZE
Rhythm is used when the trees are close to
make the middle ground look like a forest.
The elements used to make rhythm are line
shape and form. Also contrast is used to
show that the trees are all different. Another
principle of design used in this painting is
emphasis and this is used because the deer is
in the foreground which makes it the first
thing you see in the painting. Emphasis,
contrast and rhythm are all made by
using line, space, color, form, shape, texture
and value.
INTERPRET
This wounded deer in the picture
represents how the artist feels after
getting her foot ran over by a bus. For
example when she got injured she felt
wounded. Just like the deer because it
has arrows to show the pain.
EVALUATION
"The wounded Deer" is more Technically
successful because it used all the elements
of art and most of the principles of art.
For example this painting uses rhythm
when making the trees. Also contrast is
used to make everything different. One
thing that the artist could do to make this
painting have better ideas is to express
the pain of the Frida Kahlo in more
objects.
