ABSTRACT
 Smart contact lens that will allow diabetic to monitor their blood sugar with the blink of an eye.
 The lens is able to detect a patient glucose levels in their tears using built in wireless sensors.
 The lens consists of wireless chip and miniaturized glucose sensors.
 The design is based on transparent, stretchable sensors that are deposited on commercially available soft-
contact lenses.
 The electronics lie outside of both the pupil circumference and the iris . So there is no damage to the eye.
 The team expects that the research could also lead to developing biosensors capable of detecting and
treating various other human diseases, or used as a component in other biomedical devices.
INTRODUCTION
 In 2014, two of the largest multinational companies made an announcement that brought this new
technology into sharp focus.
 smart contact lenses to diagnose, monitor, and treat a wide range of diseases associated with diabetes.
 Google, through its biology offshoot, now named Verily Life Sciences, and the Swiss pharmaceutical giant
Novartis International, through its eye care division Alcon.
 Joined forces to design, develop, and commercialize smart contact lenses for diabetics.
 If the project reaches its goals, these lenses will spare diabetics from the daily finger pricks typically used
to measure blood glucose levels.
SIGNIFICANCE

“Controlling of diabetes starts with knowing your

sugar level”
DIABETES

 Diabetes is a metabolic disease in which a person has high blood glucose(blood sugar)

 There are two major types of diabetes:

• Type 1 diabetes.
• Type 2 diabetes.
Diabetes ratio across the world
Current method of monitoring glucose..
 Pricking their finger .
 Leaving with a thick needle embedded in their stomach.

Advantage of smart contact lens..

 Research has proven that the contact lens method is less painful.
 Less time consuming for diabetic than the traditional finger pricking.
EXISTING AND PROPOSED SYSTEM

EXISTING SYSTEM: PROPOSED SYSTEM:

 The traditional method of using a  The project aims to assist people with diabetes
lancing(pricking)device is a disruptive and by consistently measuring the glucose level in
painful and needs to be done repeatedly their tears
throughout the day.
ARCHITECTURE
SMART CONTACT LENS
 Placed in one eye only.
 Measuring glucose levels in real time in natural
tear secretion

MAIN COMPONENTS:
1.soft contact lens
2.sensor
3.capacitor
4.antenna
CHARGING:
 One key technology challenge with these lenses is related to charge them.
 Photo diodes are disposed over the outer surface of the contact lens.

 Photo diodes can harvest optical signals emitted by smart phones and generate power
COMMUNICATION
 Lenses can communicate with smart phone.
 Photo diodes which are used to charge the lens is also used for optical communication from smart phone.
 Reflectors and LED’s placed over the lens are employed to send optical communication back to smart
phones.
 RF communication may also used by placing RF antenna on lens.
RFID:
 Radio-frequency identification (RFID) uses electromagnetic fields to automatically identify and track tags
attached to objects.
 The tags contain electronically stored information.
 RFID (Radio frequency identification technology) has been widely used in project on internet on things.
 Data can be read and analyzed.
 It will draw its power from that device and communicate with it using a wireless technology known as RFID.
Dynamic Framed Slotted Aloha Algorithm(DFSA)
Step 1. Setting the initial frame length and sending the request command to tags asking for their information.

Step 2. All the tags randomly select one slot to respond and finish the identification of one frame.

Step 3. Count the result of this frame and use the result to estimate the tag number through our estimation algorithm.

Step 4. Calculate the number of unrecognized tags. Select the value of frame length from which is the closest to the
unrecognized tag number and adjust the responsive probability of the tags to be . Then, turn to Step 2.

If the query result from the reader is for continuously three times, the algorithm will judge that all the tags are
recognized and quit the cycle.
HOW IT WORKS
 Tear sweep through hole.

 Sense glucose.

 Digitize measurements.

 Log it to contact lens.

 Transfer the data to the device

ADVANTAGES

 Simple and painless.

 Continuous glucose monitoring.

 Mobility to user.

 Accurate readings.

 Reusable.
