Systems of wiring

The electrical load in a given place will consist of a number of

electrical appliances and each of these has to be supplied with
electrical power. This means that electric supply authority
must provide electricity upto the points outside the
consumer’s premises.from there consumer will take
connection to his main switch board.for proper utilisation of
energy consumers must have internal distribution system.
This internal system is known as wiring system.
Points for selection of type of wiring
 Expected life of installation
 Expected future extentions
 Types of constructions of building
 Fire hazards
 Atmospheric hazards like fumes etc.
 Cost of installation
Types of wiring
 Cleat wiring
 Wood casing wiring
 Cab tyre sheathed wiring
 Conduit wiring
Cleat wiring
 Cheapest method of wiring
 Used for temporary purposes
 Vulcanized indian rubber o PVC conductors are used.
 A little skill is required for laying the connections.
 This is suitable where appearance is not so important.
Cleat wiring
Wooden casing and capping
 Conductors used are V.I.R. or P.V.C. cables
 The wiring is carried out in the grooves of wooden casing.
 Teak wood casing is used.
 Suitable for 250 V level only.
 This can be done only on surface of the wall.
Wooden wiring
Cab tyre sheathed wiring
 C.T.S or T.R.S (tough rubber sheathed) conductors are
employed.
 The conducting wires are fixed on the wooden batten with
help of tinned brass clips which are first fixed on the wooden
wooden batten.
Conduit wiring
 Best for domestic use
 Provides protection against fire, shock, etc.
 V.I.R. or T.R.S conductors runs in metallic or P.V.C. tubes
 Life is long.
