गुडति रक्षति रोगेभ्य इति ।
Guduci protect from diseases.
SYNONYMS:
1) Tantrika : The stem of guduci resembles a
rope.
2) Mandali, Kundali : Guduci climbs up the
supporting plant in a circular manner.
3) Chakralashanika : When cut transversely the
stem shows circular structure.
4) Chandrahasa : The seed are semilunar
shaped.
5) Madhuparni : When crushed leaves give
viscid juice like that of honey.
6) Amrutavallari : If planted ,guduci never die.

1) Rasayani : Guduci has rejuvenating quality.
2) Jivanti : Guduci protects the life because of its
rasayana property.
3) Vayasya : Guduci promotes longevity.
4) Jvarnashini : Very efficacious drug in fever.

FEATURES:
Tinospora plant stitches like a bow with
the curved seeds. Heart shaped leaves
and cordate base.

MORPHOLOGY
PLANT:
A large glabrous climber with succulent,
croky, and grooved stems
Leaves:
Membranous, 5-10cm long, roundish or
subdeltoid, large basal lobes, 7-9 nerved,
reticulately veined.
FLOWERS:
Clustered in the axils of small subulate bracts. Sepals 6
in number. Outer 3 are small & ovate - oblong , inner
3 are larger , concave, broadly elliptical. Yellow in
colour. Petals are 6 in number.
FRUIT:
Red on ripening, size of a large pea.
SEEDS:
Broadly ellipsoid with a slender dorsal ridge and a
ventral depression, slightly muricate
ROOTS:
Branches sending down slender pendulous fleshy
roots
BARK:
Terete, striate , with tubercled , pale,sometimes
shining or glaucous bark
PART USED:
STEM:
Transversely cut pieces of dry,
cylindrical, soft wooded stem,
5 mm to 2.5 cm in diameter.
Outer surface is greyish brown
to black in colour, cut stem
shows radiating medullary
rays, not having any odour, &
bitter in taste.
