 Structured and organized way


to use small groups to enhance
students learning and positive
interdependence.
What do students do??

 Students are given a task or assignment,


and they work together to accomplish the
task.
 Each student is given responsibility to
finish a task, discuss as a group then later
turn it in for a grade.

Benefits of using cooperative
learning strategies.
 Since cooperative learning is fun, students
enjoy and they are motivated to get
assignments done.
 Students are engaged, active participants in
learning.
 Allows students to discuss with their groups
and use critical thinking skills.
 The child remembers what they learned and
store it in long term memory.
Main point of Cooperative
learning!
 It builds positive relationship
among students.
 It gets them ready from a young
age to work into groups. Which is
very important for the future.
How to organize groups ?

 Teacher makes a group based on ability level.


 4 to 5 students in a group.
 Average students, below average students
and above average students are put in one
group.
 Usually teachers do not allow them to make
their own groups to avoid distraction.
Teamwork

 Students are motivated to help one and


another.
 Strengthen their own learning.
 Students are able to translate what teacher
have said to student language.

Why is it important?

 Teacher gets to see how well students can


work with other members in the class.
 Helps the child learn from peers
 Teacher can walk around to see if help is
needed.
 The child feels he or she is responsible to
finish the assigned task.
