Coordinating Conjunctions

 FANBOYS  Can be used to connect two


 For complete sentences or two
 And words or phrases.
 Nor  When used to connect two
sentences, a comma always
 But comes before the
 Or conjunction!
 Yet  Example:
 So  I want to eat pizza, but it is
too greasy.
 She was a lovely singer, and
she could dance well.
How are they used…

 “and and “nor” are used  “for” and “so” are used
to show agreement to show a reason
between items/ clauses between clauses
 “yet” and “but” are used  “or” can be used to
to show disagreement show agreement or

Subordinating Conjunctions

 Used to connect clauses


 A subordinating conjunction causes the
clause that it appears in to become
dependent. In other words, it will be a
sentence fragment unless it is joined to an
independent clause.
 Can be found in the beginning or middle of a
sentence
Examples…

 After Although As As If As Long As


 Because Before Even If Even Though
If
 Once Provided Since So That That
 Though Till Unless Until What
 When Whenever Wherever Whether
While

 He is a good friend because he always


listens to me.
 She will be late since she missed the bus.
 You try…write 3 sentences using different
subordinating conjunctions.
