Pure Substance
• Pure substance, or simply substance, is a type
of matter that has a fixed composition and a
definite set of properties.
• It is always homogeneous, or appears as a
single phase and has uniform characteristics
all throughout.
• It has a constant boiling and melting point.
Mixture
• Mixture – is a type of matter with no definite
properties.
• It is made up of two or more kinds of
substances, each of which retains its own
characteristic properties.
– Homogenous – ex. seawater
– Heterogenous – ex. muddy water
